Phototherapy presents an effective approach for treating localized methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infections; however, the tradeoff between therapeutic efficacy and negative off-target effect persists. To address these issues, we have developed a nanoparticle-hydrogel superstructure comprising phototherapeutic liposomal nanobubbles (NB) and fat extract (FE) encapsulated by F-127 hydrogel. After local administration to sites of MRSA infection, the superstructure effectively neutralizes high levels of MRSA toxins to protect against toxin-mediated cytotoxicity through loaded, which can also be leveraged to enhance anti-MRSA efficacy via toxin-regulated on-demand phototherapy upon near-infrared irradiation.

Prediction of Pt, Ir, Ru, and Rh complexes light absorption in the therapeutic window for phototherapy using machine learning.

Effective light-based cancer treatments, such as photodynamic therapy (PDT) and photoactivated chemotherapy (PACT), rely on compounds that are activated by light efficiently, and absorb within the therapeutic window (600-850 nm). Traditional prediction methods for these light absorption properties, including Time-Dependent Density Functional Theory (TDDFT), are often computationally intensive and time-consuming. In this study, we explore a machine learning (ML) approach to predict the light absorption in the region of the therapeutic window of platinum, iridium, ruthenium, and rhodium complexes, aiming at streamlining the screening of potential photoactivatable prodrugs.

In situ vaccines that can stimulate tumor immune response have emerged as a breakthrough in antitumor therapy. However, the immunosuppressed tumor microenvironment and insufficient infiltration of immune cells lead to ineffective antitumor immunity. Hence, a biomimetic carrier-free nanosystem (BCC) to induce synergistic phototherapy/chemotherapy-driven in situ vaccines was designed.

Purpose: To report outcomes in patients with progressive keratoconus who underwent a standardized protocol of transepithelial phototherapeutic keratectomy (t-PTK) laser followed by accelerated corneal collagen crosslinking (CXL).

Methods: All patients with progressive keratoconus undergoing our protocol at a London clinic between 2019 and 2023 were included. The protocol involved t-PTK at 58-μm central ablation depth at a 9-mm treatment zone on the Schwind Amaris 1050RS platform.

A multifunctional thermosensitive hydrogel based on phototherapy for promoting the healing of dental extraction wounds.

RSC Adv

School and Hospital of Stomatology, Tianjin Medical University, Tianjin Key Laboratory of Oral Soft and Hard Tissues Restoration and Regeneration Tianjin 300070 China

Post-extraction wound infections are a common complication of dental extractions. More specifically, infection in the alveolar socket after tooth extraction accelerates the resorption and destruction of the alveolar bone, and ultimately affects the final restoration results. Currently, the main clinical treatment approaches applied to the socket after tooth extraction include mechanical wound debridement, chemical rinses (, chlorhexidine), filling of the extraction socket with absorbent gelatin sponges, and the systemic application of antibiotics.
