Lysozyme-targeted liposomes for enhanced tubular targeting in the treatment of acute kidney injury.

Acta Biomater

January 2025

The State Key Laboratory of Functions and Applications of MediEucal Plants, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Guizhou Medical University, Guiyang 550025, Guizhou Province, China; The Guizhou Provincial Scientific and Technologic Innovation Base ([2023]003), Guizhou Medical University, Guiyang 550025, Guizhou Province, China. Electronic address:

Acute kidney injury (AKI) is defined by the release of pro-inflammatory factors, leading to structural damage in renal tubules and subsequent tubular cell injury and death. Delivering drugs specifically to renal tubules to mitigate tubular cell damage holds potential for AKI treatment. In this work, we developed functional liposomes (LZM-PLNPs-TP) designed to bypass the glomerular filtration barrier and target tubules by leveraging the unique structural and pathological characteristics of glomeruli and tubules.

Clonal monocytosis of renal significance.

Kidney Int

December 2024

Division of Hematology, Department of Internal Medicine, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota, USA. Electronic address:

Clonal monocytosis reflects a preneoplastic or neoplastic sustained increase in the absolute monocyte count in the absence of reactive causes. Causes of clonal monocytosis include clonal cytopenias with monocytosis and acute and chronic myeloid neoplasms. Chronic myelomonocytic leukemia is a prototypical myelodysplastic/myeloproliferative overlap neoplasm in adults, characterized by sustained peripheral blood monocytosis.

Amyloidosis is a complex group of rare disorders characterized by the deposition of misfolded proteins in the extracellular space of various tissues and organs, leading to progressive organ dysfunction. The kidneys constitute a very common site affected, most notably by immunoglobulin-mediated (light chain, heavy chain, and light and heavy chain amyloidosis), but other types that include serum amyloid A (AA) amyloidosis and leukocyte chemotactic factor 2 amyloidosis, along with mutant proteins in several hereditary forms of amyloidosis such as transthyretin, fibrinogen α-chain, gelsolin, lysozyme, and apolipoproteins AI/AII/AIV/CII/CIII amyloidosis have been incriminated as well. The clinical presentation is variable and can range from minimal proteinuria for leukocyte chemotactic factor 2 amyloidosis to a full-blown nephrotic syndrome for AA amyloidosis.

The influence of HSP inducers on salinity stress in sterlet sturgeon (Acipenser ruthenus): In vitro study on HSP expression, immune responses, and antioxidant capacity.

Cell Stress Chaperones

August 2024

Department of Biology, Faculty of Science, University of Guilan, Rasht, Iran; Department of Marine Sciences, The Caspian Sea Basin Research Center, University of Guilan, Rasht, Iran.

Heat shock proteins (HSPs) play a crucial role in antioxidant systems, immune responses, and enzyme activation during stress conditions. Salinity changes can cause stress and energy expenditure in fish, resulting in mortality, especially in fingerlings. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between salinity and HSPs in stressed fish by assessing the effects of various HSP inducers (HSPis), including Pro-Tex® (800 mM), amygdalin (80 mM), and a novel synthetic compound derived from pirano piranazole (80 µM), on isolated cells from Sterlet Sturgeon (Acipenser ruthenus) exposed to 13 ‰ salinity (S13).

A Water-Soluble Wavy Coordination Polymer of Cu(II) as a Turn-On Luminescent Probe for Histidine and Histidine-Rich Proteins/Peptides.

Inorg Chem

May 2024

Analytical & Environmental Science Division and Centralized Instrument Facility, CSIR-CSMCRI, G. B. Marg, Bhavnagar 364002, India.

Histidine plays an essential role in most biological systems. Changes in the homeostasis of histidine and histidine-rich proteins are connected to several diseases. Herein, we report a water-soluble Cu(II) coordination polymer, labeled CuCP, for the fluorimetric detection of histidine and histidine-rich proteins and peptides.
