AI Article Synopsis

  • In Switzerland, blood donation levels are influenced by the high demand for plasma, leading to an excess of erythrocyte concentrates.
  • Research at a regional general hospital demonstrated that these erythrocyte concentrates can be effectively utilized in surgery and anesthesia.
  • The collaboration between the clinical department and the blood donor service significantly increased the use of erythrocyte concentrates from 5% to 80% over five years.

Article Abstract

In Switzerland the amount of blood donations is determined by the demands for plasma; as a result there is a surplus of erythrocyte concentrates for which more uses should be found. Trials in a regional general hospital proved that these concentrates can be advantageously employed in the field of surgery and anasthesia: due to close cooperation between the clinical department and the blood donor sevice the demand for erythrocyte concentrates rose from 5 per cent to 80 per cent within 5 years.

Phosphatidic acid (PA) through its unique negatively charged phosphate headgroup binds to various proteins to modulate multiple cellular events. To perform such diverse signaling functions, the ionization and charge of PA's headgroup relies on the properties of vicinal membrane lipids and changes in cellular conditions. Cholesterol has conspicuous effects on lipid properties and membrane dynamics.

Department of Clinical Pharmacology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Ostrava, Syllabova 19, 703 00 Ostrava, Czech Republic; Department of Clinical Pharmacology, Institute of Laboratory Medicine, University Hospital Ostrava, 17. listopadu 1790, 708 52 Ostrava, Czech Republic. Electronic address:

Background: Natalizumab is a humanized monoclonal antibody administered at a fixed dose of 300 mg intravenously or subcutaneously every 4-6 weeks to treat relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis. In this prospective cross-sectional study, natalizumab serum concentrations obtained during routine healthcare were measured, and the relationships between different routes of administration, sampling times, body characteristics, changes in blood count, and presence of anti-natalizumab antibodies were evaluated.

Methods: Ninety-two patients were included in this study.

Objectives: The usefulness of methotrexate-polyglutamates (MTX-PGs) concentration for management of rheumatoid arthritis has been debated. We aimed to clarify the association of MTX-PGs concentration with efficacy and safety in MTX-naïve patients initiating MTX in a prospective interventional clinical trial.

Methods: The MIRACLE trial enrolled 300 MTX-naïve patients.

Background: The incidence of diabetic foot infections is increasing due to the rising number of persons with diabetes and the prolonged life expectancy. It is vital to differentiate soft-tissue infection (STI) from diabetic foot osteomyelitis (DFO), as treatment modalities and durations vary widely, but this can be challenging. We aimed to assess the blood concentration levels of the high mobility group box 1 protein (HMGB-1) in STI and DFO compared to healthy subjects, and to investigate whether this protein could contribute to differentiating STI from DFO.
