The incidence of the cancer of the pancreas is particulary high in Geneva. To determine the possible effects of tobacco, alcohol and/or food, the consumption habits of patients with digestive diseases have been studied at the University Hospital of Geneva since 1977. The present contribution deals with pancreatic patients only. These patients' consumption of tobacco, alcohol and food has been compared with that of standardized controls randomly selected from the Geneva population. A relationship between pancreatic cancer and lifetime tobacco consumption was found on the one hand, and on the other a relationship between chronic pancreatitis and lifetime alcohol consumption.

The widespread reliance on single-use plastics (SUPs) has fostered a global throwaway culture, especially in the food packaging industry, where convenience and low cost have driven their adoption, posing serious environmental threats, particularly to marine ecosystems and biodiversity. Edible and ecofriendly packaging made from millet, specifically sorghum ( () Moench), is a promising solution to mitigate SUP consumption and promote sustainability. This study explores the development of edible sorghum bowls, enhanced through roasting and incorporating 3 g of hibiscus and rose flower powders.

The impact of thermal treatment for roasting on pine nuts from two geographical regions in Russia (Vladivostok and Baikal) was studied. They were roasted at 180 °C for 20 min in an oven. The aim was to establish the changes that occurred in the chemical (proteins, lipids, carbohydrates, ash, fibers), lipid composition (fatty acids, tocopherols, sterols, phospholipids), and physicochemical characteristics (peroxide value, acid value, iodine value, conjugated dienes and trienes) after roasting of the pine nuts.
