We aimed to evaluate the reproductive efficiency of Nelore cows in fixed-time artificial insemination (FTAI) programs with early resynchronization. A total of 468 Nelore cows were divided into two experimental groups: R30-conventional resynchronization at 30 days ( = 234); R22-early resynchronization at 22 days ( = 234). Both groups followed a synchronization protocol using intravaginal progesterone devices combined with the administration of steroids and gonadotropins.

Objectives: This experiment was carried out to investigate the protective effects of curcumin (CUR) on testicular damage induced by the valproic acid (VPA) administration.

Materials And Methods: Male Wistar-Albino rats (n=28, 250-300 g) were randomly divided into four groups: Control (1 ml saline, oral), VPA (500 mg/kg, IP), CUR (200 mg/kg, oral), or VPA+CUR (500 mg/kg, VPA, IP plus 200 mg/kg CUR, oral). The treatments were applied for 14 days.

Proteomics and metabolomics analyses of mechanism underlying bovine sperm cryoinjury.

BMC Genomics

January 2025

College of Animal Science and Technology, Qingdao Agricultural University, Qingdao, 266109, China.

Background: The cryoinjury of semen during cryopreservation reduces sperm motility, constraining the application of artificial insemination (AI) in bovine reproduction. Some fertility markers, related to sperm motility before and after freezing have been identified. However, little is known about the biological mechanism through which freezing reduces sperm motility.

Increasing matrix metalloproteinase-2 activity by treatment of ovine cervical explants with a long-acting analogue of oxytocin (Carbetocin) at the expected time of artificial insemination.

Vet Res Commun

January 2025

Biochemistry, Veterinary Biosciences Department, Veterinary Faculty, Universidad de la República, Ruta 8, Km 18 y Ruta 102, Montevideo, 13000, Uruguay.

The aim was to study the effect of long-acting analogue of oxytocin (Carbetocin) on cervical collagenolysis of MAP-eCG synchronized ewes. At the expected time of artificial insemination, five ewes were slaughtered (n = 5) and their cervical explants (100-200 mg) were incubated during 12 h with MEM supplemented with 0, 8, 16, 32 and 64 ng/mL of Cb. Activities of activated and latent forms of matrix metalloproteinases-2 and - 9 (MMP-2 and MMP-9, respectively) in the supernatant were determined by a SDS-PAGE zymography and prostaglandin E2 concentration by immunoassay.

MT1/cAMP/PKA Pathway in Melatonin-Regulated Sperm Capacitation.

Reprod Sci

January 2025

College of Veterinary Medicine, Yangzhou University, Yangzhou, 225009, Jiangsu, China.

Melatonin is mainly synthesized and secreted by pineal gland, and plays multiple functions, including its regulating effects on reproductive processes. Sperm capacitation is necessary for fertilization, but the effect of melatonin on mouse sperm capacitation remains to be elucidated. We thus investigated the roles of melatonin on capacitation by culturing the sperms from mouse cauda epididymis in the medium with different doses of melatonin.
