Decision-making processes relevant to food practices of young spouses were studied by means of the adoption model. Data on demographic information, nutritional knowledge, mastery orientation, and health goals of husbands and wives were analyzed for the first of a two-phase adoption process. In general, low importance was placed on goals reflecting concern with quality of diets. Nutritional knowledge of husbands was negatively related to the importance they placed on health goals, while both parameters were positively related for wives. Although nutritional knowledge of husbands was not related to that of their wives, the importance spouses placed on health goals was.
