Endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty is a minimally invasive procedure for the treatment of obesity. The procedure is generally safe and well-tolerated, but major adverse events occur in up to 3% of patients. Perigastric abscess is a potential complication caused by postprocedural gastric leak.

This study analyzed the safety and effectiveness of laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) in patients over 60 years old, in a long-term follow-up, in a high-volume bariatric center. We retrospectively analyzed all patients older than 60 years who underwent LSG in our center from January 2009 to December 2018. A prospectively collected database of 4991 consecutive LSG cases was reviewed.

Hypermucoviscous Klebsiella pneumoniae (HvKP) is a hypervirulent strain of Klebsiella that causes metastatic spread and life-threatening infection. While it is more common among people of Asian descent, it has been increasingly reported globally among people of other ethnicities as well. We report a case of pan-susceptible HvKP infection in a male patient of Asian descent who has been living in the US for 20 years.
