Analysis of Risk Factors for Gastric Cancer and Precancerous Lesions: A Case-Control Study.

J Dig Dis

January 2025

State Key Laboratory of Holistic Integrative Management of Gastrointestinal Cancers, National Clinical Research Center for Digestive Diseases, Xijing Hospital, Air Force Medical University, Xi'an, Shaanxi Province, China.

Objectives: To investigate the correlation between gastric xanthoma (GX) and precancerous lesions (PCL) and gastric cancer (GC), and to explore other potential risk factors for PCL and GC in northwest China.

Methods: A case-control study was conducted from September 2022 to September 2023 at Xijing Hospital, Air Force Medical University (Xi'an, Shaanxi Province, China). The patients who underwent gastroscopy were enrolled and divided into the chronic gastritis (CG) group (n = 423), PCL group (n = 422), and GC group (n = 415).

Transcriptome analysis reveals significant discrepancies between two in vitro models of host-trematode interaction.

January 2025

Institute of Cytology and Genetics, Siberian Branch of Russian Academy of Sciences (ICG SB RAS), 10 Akad. Lavrentiev Ave., Novosibirsk, 630090, Russia; Department of Natural Sciences, Novosibirsk State University, 2 Pirogova Str., Novosibirsk, 630090, Russia. Electronic address:

Cell models emulating an in vitro parasitic infection can greatly improve our understanding of helminthiases. Nonetheless, it remains challenging to select an appropriate in vitro model to study molecular pathogenesis of infections by trematodes having a complex life cycle. Therefore, adequate models are in high demand.

Considering the mutual relationship between redox disbalance and inflammation in (HP) infection, we aimed to evaluate whether the polymorphisms in antioxidant glutathione transferases genes ( rs1695, rs1138272, rs4925 and rs156697) modify susceptibility to HP infection, as well as the severity of HP-associated gastric manifestation development. Therefore, GST gene polymorphisms were determined via the appropriate PCR in 101 HP-positive and 107 HP-negative patients. Our results show that carriers of the variant genotype (rs1695) or at least one variant allele (rs1138272) were more prone to the development of HP-positive gastritis compared with reference allele carriers (OR = 3.

Gastric Microbiota Associated with Gastric Precancerous Lesions in -Negative Patients.

Microorganisms

January 2025

Division of Gastroenterology, Department of Internal Medicine and Gastrointestinal Cancer Center, Kangbuk Samsung Hospital, Sungkyunkwan University School of Medicine, Seoul 03181, Republic of Korea.

Studies on the gastric microbiota associated with gastric precancerous lesions remain limited. This study aimed to profile the gastric mucosal microbiota in patients with -negative precancerous lesions. Gastric mucosal samples were obtained from 67 -negative patients, including those with chronic gastritis (CG), intestinal metaplasia (IM), and dysplasia.

Chronic Helicobacter pylori (Hp) infection is the largest etiological factor for gastric cancer, but in recent years the reports of Hp-naïve gastric neoplasms (HpNGNs) have increased as the Hp-infected population in Japan has been declining. The histopathologic spectrum of HpNGNs differs significantly from that of conventional Hp-infected gastric neoplasms. Molecularly, the former harbor considerably fewer genetic and epigenetic abnormalities, reflecting the absence of chronic inflammatory conditions in the gastric mucosa.
