Unlabelled: Streptolysin O (SLO) is a virulence determinant of group A (), the agent of streptococcal sore throat and severe invasive infections. SLO is a member of a family of bacterial pore-forming toxins known as cholesterol-dependent cytolysins, which require cell membrane cholesterol for pore formation. While cholesterol is essential for cytolytic activity, accumulating data suggest that cell surface glycans may also participate in the binding of SLO and other cholesterol-dependent cytolysins to host cells.

Cytokinesis in animal and fungal cells requires the contraction of actomyosin-based contractile rings formed in the division cortex of the cell during late mitosis. However, the detailed mechanism remains incompletely understood. Here, we aim to develop a novel cell-free system by encapsulating cell extracts obtained from fission yeast cells within lipid vesicles, which subsequently leads to the formation of a contractile ring-like structure inside the vesicles.

The challenges of pollution and agro-industrial waste management have led to the development of bioconversion techniques to transform these wastes into valuable products. This has increased the focus on the sustainable and cost-efficient production of biosurfactants from agro-industrial waste. Hence, the present study investigates the production of sophorolipid biosurfactants using the yeast strain IIPL32 under submerged fermentation, employing sugarcane bagasse hydrolysate-a renewable, low-cost agro-industrial waste as the feedstock.

Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is known to be associated with dysbiosis of offspring gut microbiota, but the mechanism remains unclear. The present prospective study explored the role of human milk fatty acid composition in this association. Mothers with GDM and normal controls were recruited at 24-28 gestational weeks.

Protein glycosylation has been considered as a fundamental phenomenon shared by all domains of life. In , glycosylation of flagellins A and B with pseudaminic acid have been rigorously confirmed and shown to be essential for flagella assembly and bacterial colonization. In addition to flagellins, several other proteins including RecA, AlpA/B, and BabA/B in have also been reported to be glycosylated and to be dependent on the lipopolysaccharide (LPS) biosynthetic pathway.
