The problems of the diagnosis of an androgen producing tumour are described within the review of a case of a 37 year old woman with marked virilization. Functional endocrine tests, laparoscopy, retroperitoneal pneumography and angiography did not estabion of the ovarian and adrena veins established the pre-operative diagnostic of an androgen producing tumor of the left ovary. This permitted to limit the operative procedure to the minimum procedure necessary.

Dutasteride (DUT) shows promising results in hair regrowth; however, oral DUT intake causes serious sexual adverse events. Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), a steroid hormone produced by the adrenal glands, plays a key role in various physiological processes, including bone health. Its age-related decline is linked to reduced bone density, though the mechanisms by which DHEA affects bone metabolism remain complex. This review summarises the diverse effects of DHEA on bone metabolism and density, highlighting its therapeutic potential; Methods: A literature search on the effects of DHEA on bone-related parameters was conducted from PubMed and Scopus using a specific search string, and after removing duplicates and irrelevant articles, 36 relevant full-text studies were included; Results: DHEA promotes osteoblast differentiation and proliferation, regulates the RANKL/OPG ratio, and inhibits osteoclastogenesis and bone resorption.

In viviparous black rockfish (Sebastes schlegelii), the kidney of reproductive-phase males actively produces lipocalin-type prostaglandin D synthase homolog (LPGDSh) protein, which is presumably involved in inter-sexual communication when emitted in the urine. The present study was undertaken to discover whether androgens and their nuclear receptors (Ars) are engaged in regulation of renal LPGDSh protein synthesis in black rockfish. Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction, in conjunction with immunohistochemistry and highly sensitive enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, revealed that intra-abdominal administration of a synthetic androgen, 17α-methyltestosterone (MT), to juvenile black rockfish induced their renal expression of LPGDSh transcript and protein.

Androgen secretion by testicular germ-cell tumors (GCTs) appears to be markedly rare and likely underreported in the literature. This case study highlights a patient with such a rare tumor, underscoring a notable and yet easily avoidable diagnostic oversight in one of the most prevalent cancers among men. We advocate for increased vigilance and the inclusion of specific symptomatic screening for hyperandrogenism of select patients in existing guidelines and, where appropriate, the implementation of standardized hormonal laboratory analyses in both pre- and post-orchidectomy assessments.
