Background: Objective indices of functional capacity in patients with diabetic cardiomyopathy and stage B heart failure (HF) have not been comprehensively defined. We sought to characterize the cardiopulmonary exercise characteristics of individuals with diabetic cardiomyopathy at high risk for overt HF.

Methods: The relationships from cardiopulmonary exercise testing with clinical and laboratory characteristics of participants with diabetic cardiomyopathy were evaluated using baseline data from the ARISE-HF trial (Aldose Reductase Inhibition for Stabilization of Exercise Capacity in Heart Failure).

Developing highly efficient deep-blue multi-resonance thermal activated delayed fluorescence (MR-TADF) materials for ultra-high-definition organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) displays that meet the stringent BT.2020 standard remains a significant challenge. In this study, we present a strategy to achieve high-performance deep-blue MR-TADF emitters by integrating a large π-conjugated double-boron-embedded MR skeleton with strategically positioned peripheral steric hindrance groups.

Growing evidence indicates that type 2 diabetes (T2D) is associated with an increased risk of developing Parkinson's disease (PD) through shared disease mechanisms. Studies show that insulin resistance, which is the driving pathophysiological mechanism of T2D plays a major role in neurodegeneration by impairing neuronal functionality, metabolism and survival. To investigate insulin resistance caused pathological changes in the human midbrain, which could predispose a healthy midbrain to PD development, we exposed iPSC-derived human midbrain organoids from healthy individuals to either high insulin concentration, promoting insulin resistance, or to more physiological insulin concentration restoring insulin signalling function.

Mural cells are essential for maintaining the proper functions of microvasculatures. However, a key challenge of microvascular tissue engineering is identifying a cellular source for mural cells. We showed that , circulating fibrocytes (CFs) can (1) shear and stabilize the microvasculatures formed by vascular endothelial cells (VECs) in a collagen gel, (2) form gap junctions with VECs and (3) induce basement membrane formation.

Insight into the Role and Evidence of Oxygen Vacancies in Porous Single-Crystalline Oxide to Enhance Catalytic Activity and Durability.

Introducing and stabilizing oxygen vacancies in oxide catalysts is considered to be a promising strategy for improving catalytic activity and durability. Herein, we quantitatively create oxygen vacancies in the lattice of porous single-crystalline β-GaO monoliths by reduction treatments and stabilize them through the long-range ordering of crystal lattice to enhance catalytic activity and durability. The combination analysis of time-of-flight neutron powder diffraction and extended x-ray absorption fine structure discloses that the preferential generation of oxygen vacancy tends to occur at the site of tetrahedral coordination oxygen ions (O sites), which contributes to the formation of unsaturated Ga-O coordination in the monoclinic phase.
