The mechanism of inhibition of binocular vision (at a cortical level in the Pavlovian sense) in convergent strabismus is described. The study concerns both those patients whith no amblyopia and those whose amblyopia has been cured. Part one of the article describe the clinical characteristics of this cortical inhibition as shown by the polarised light stereoscopic projector. Some basic concepts with this therapeutic application are described in part two. In this paper the author suggests a relationships between the severity of inhibition of binocularity and the degree of disturbance in spatial localisation. The greater the inhibition at a cortical level, the more disturbed is the localisation of objects in space in binocular vision. The treatment of inhibition must include precipitating causes that is to say the disturbed binocular relationships of abnormal retinal correspondence and is complete when cortical inhibition and abnormal retinal correspondence has been completely rectified. On the other hand there are occasions when it is not possible to eliminate abnormal retinal correspondence, this is especially true in older patients, and under this circumstances, it is better to accept inhibition of binocular function than to have diplopia.

Background: To investigate whether patients with binocular reading inhibition due to central vision loss benefit from a new biofeedback (BF) rehabilitation method that aimed at improving fixation stability and at establishing a correspondence between the monocular preferred retinal loci (PRLs) on functioning retina in both eyes.
Methods: Thirty-three patients with bilateral macular disease and with binocular reading inhibition participated in 10 training sessions consisting of 10-min visual stimulation for each eye to stabilize fixation and relocate the PRL (if needed) using the BF module of the MP-1 microperimeter (Nidek Technologies Srl., Vigonza, PD, Italy).

Multistable perceptual phenomena provide insights into the mind's dynamic states within a stable external environment and the neural underpinnings of these consciousness changes are often studied with binocular rivalry. Conventional methods to study binocular rivalry suffer from biases and assumptions that limit their ability to describe the continuous nature of this perceptual transitions and to discover what kind of percept was perceived across time. In this study, we propose a novel way to avoid those shortcomings by combining a continuous psychophysical method that estimates introspection during binocular rivalry with machine learning clustering and transition probability analysis.
