Soflens (polymacon) contact lenses were subjected to long-term heat disinfection in a carefully controlled laboratory study and in a patient clinical study. No adverse effects were observed on the physical or chemical properties of the lenses other than the deposition of some tear components in a portion of the patient-worn lenses. This was not unexpected since no enzyme or surfactant cleaners were used.
