Computations were carried out of 725 recordings of enzymic activity of equal shares of creatinkinase solution. It has been shown that in the course of macroscopic fluctuations (synchronous in the macrovolume of "conformation fluctuations") a discrete characteristic spectrum of protein solution state resolution degree of the spectrum is deteriorated. Application of statistical spectral analysis to characterization of the properties of protein aqueous solutions is suggested.

Probing Critical States of Matter on a Digital Quantum Computer.

Although quantum mechanics underpins the microscopic behavior of all materials, its effects are often obscured at the macroscopic level by thermal fluctuations. A notable exception is a zero-temperature phase transition, where scaling laws emerge entirely due to quantum correlations over a diverging length scale. The accurate description of such transitions is challenging for classical simulation methods of quantum systems, and is a natural application space for quantum simulation.

As the depth of coal mining in China continues to increase, the fracturing of coal rock masses has an increasingly complex impact on the surrounding rock roadways. The majority of the mine's roadways run through coal rock masses with hard roofs and soft bottoms, which typically exhibit complex dynamic behaviour. To further research the mechanical behaviour and fracture evolution of coal rock masses under hard-roof and soft-floor conditions, the study is based on the majority of working faces in a mine, which have hard roofs and soft floors.

The brain's activity fluctuations have different temporal scales across the brain regions, with associative regions displaying slower timescales than sensory areas. This so-called hierarchy of timescales has been shown to correlate with both structural brain connectivity and intrinsic regional properties. Here, using publicly available human resting-state fMRI and dMRI data it was found that, while more structurally connected brain regions presented activity fluctuations with longer timescales, their activity fluctuations presented lower variance.

Evaluation of unitary conductance of gap junction channels based on stationary fluctuation analysis.

Institute of Cardiology, Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, Kaunas 50103, Lithuania; Department of Mathematical Modelling, Kaunas University of Technology, Kaunas 51368, Lithuania.

Gap junction (GJ) channels, formed of connexin (Cx) protein, enable direct intercellular communication in most vertebrate tissues. One of the key biophysical characteristics of these channels is their unitary conductance, which can be affected by mutations in Cx genes and various biochemical factors, such as posttranslational modifications. Due to the unique intercellular configuration of GJ channels, recording single-channel currents is challenging, and precise data on unitary conductances of some Cx isoforms remain limited.

The Cooperativity of Atomic Fluctuations in Highly Supercooled Glass-Forming Metallic Melts.

J Phys Chem Lett

January 2025

Laboratory of Metal Physics and Technology, Department of Materials, ETH Zurich, 8093 Zurich, Switzerland.

The behavior of supercooled glass-forming metals depends on the cooperative atomic fluctuations caused by dynamic heterogeneities in the melt. These spatial and temporal heterogeneities form dynamic clusters, which are regions of cooperative rearrangement (CRR). In this study, the macroscopic kinetics and the correlation length , of the CRR, are derived for PtCuNiP and PdCuNiP metallic glass-formers by fast differential scanning calorimetry near the glass transition.
