Pericardial xenograft heart valves have been used in 469 patients for single or multiple valve replacement. Early in the series, valves were made in-house, but since May 1976, valves have been made by Shiley Laboratories, Inc. During the eight-year observation period, there were 7% early and 7.9% late deaths. Although no anti-coagulants were used on a long-term basis, there were only eight mild embolic episodes. Preoperatively, 56--98% of all patients were in class III or IV of the NYHA classification; postoperatively, all surviving patients have been found to have improved by at least one classification.

Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the osteogenic performance of allograft particulate bone and cortical bone blocks combined with xenograft under bovine pericardium membranes, for treating different degrees of labial bone defects in the aesthetic zone.
Materials And Methods: Twenty-four patients with bone defects were divided into two groups based on defect severity (Terheyden 1/4 and 2/4 groups). The Terheyden 1/4 group received granular bone grafts alone, while the Terheyden 2/4 group received cortical bone blocks combined with granular bone grafts.

Background: The treatment outcomes of vein and bovine pericardial patches in thromboendarterectomy (TEA) for common femoral artery (CFA) lesions in patients with peripheral arterial disease (PAD) remain unclear. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of the bovine pericardial patch by comparing it with vein patch angioplasty.
Methods: This was a multicenter retrospective study.

The surgical reconstruction of severe corneal ulcers is a common and crucial component of the clinical practice of veterinary ophthalmology. Numerous surgical techniques are used in dogs for corneal reconstruction, and these techniques may be categorized by the material used to repair the corneal lesion. The first part of the present review described procedures that utilize autogenous ocular tissues, homologous donor tissues, and heterologous donor tissues.

Xenotransplantation of neuroblastoma cells into larval zebrafish allows the characterization of their tumorigenic abilities and high-throughput treatment screening. This established preclinical model traditionally relies on microinjection into the yolk or perivitelline space, leaving the engraftment ability of cells at the hindbrain ventricle (HBV) and pericardial space (PCS), sites valuable for evaluating metastasis, angiogenesis, and the brain microenvironment, unknown. To address this gap in knowledge, Casper zebrafish at 48 h postfertilization were microinjected with approximately 200 Kelly, Be(2)-C, SK-N-AS, or SY5Y cells into either the HBV or PCS.

Introduction: Horizontal ridge augmentation of a deficient alveolar bone site is performed either simultaneously with implant placement or in a staged approach prior to implant insertion. There are several available strategies for the augmentation of alveolar ridge deficiencies, including guided bone regeneration (GBR) through the use of barrier membranes. The success of the GBR approach mainly depends on the exclusion of soft tissue cells during bone remodeling.
