Leucine-enkephalin, a naturally occurring pentapeptide with morphine-like activity, has been synthesized by a fragment condensation liquid phase method using 1,3,4-trimethyl-delta 3-phospholene-1,1-dichloride as a coupling agent. The advantages of this method are discussed.

The high incidence of comorbid chronic pain and depression significantly reduces life quality and complicates the treatment of both conditions. Ions stored in an electrodynamic ion trap can be forced from the center of the ion trap to regions of higher radio frequency (RF) electric fields by exposing them to a dipolar DC (DDC) potential applied across opposing electrodes. Such ions absorb power from the trapping RF field, resulting in increased ripple motion at the frequency of the trapping RF. When a bath gas is present, ions undergo energetic collisions that result in "RF-heating" sufficient to induce fragmentation.

Rationale: The solid matrices used for matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOFMS) enable the analysis of small molecules by preventing fragmentations of organic matrix molecules in the low mass-to-charge ratio (m/z) range. In this work, a nylon nanoweb with TiO(2) particles was developed as a solid matrix for MALDI-TOFMS to improve the low intensities of mass peaks, narrow detection ranges and low signal-to-noise levels.
Methods: The nylon nanoweb with TiO(2) particles was prepared by simultaneously electrospinning a nylon nanoweb and electrospraying TiO(2) nanoparticles measuring 25 nm in diameter to form TiO(2) spheres 300 nm in diameter.
