Eighty-three percent of 24 pregnancies in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus studied retrospectively terminated in normal children. Fifty-four percent of patients had clinical and serological disease exacerbations during pregnancy or in the post-partum period, as contrasted with 4% in the 6 months prior to pregnancy. The presence of significant renal disease and SLE activity in the 6 months prior to pregnancy correlated with exacerbations. A distinction between pre-eclamptic toxemia and lupus exacerbation had to be made in 25% of our patients. There were 2 maternal deaths associated with uncontrolled lupus activity. No potentially viable infants died for reasons directly related to lupus activity.

Background: A giant encephalocele associated with Chiari malformation is a rare congenital anomaly from a cephalad neural tube defect. Early prenatal diagnosis and parental counseling are essential; as early surgical intervention can improve outcomes.
Methods: Between 2010 and 2023, twenty-seven newborns out of 43,815 delivered at our institution were diagnosed with encephaloceles, including seven cases of giant encephalocele associated with Chiari malformation type III.

Objectives: Pregnancies affected by opioid use disorder (OUD) face difficulties with postpartum pain control. This study aims to determine if prenatal anesthesia consultation for patients on medication for opioid use disorder (MOUD) affects maternal postpartum pain control.
Methods: This is a retrospective cohort study of pregnant patients diagnosed on MOUD who received prenatal care and delivered at a single academic institution between January 2017 and July 2023.

The aim of this retrospective study was to compare corneal parameters and compliance using a Pentacam HR-Scheimpflug (Pentacam HR) and a swept-source OCT Casia (Casia) in keratoconus (KC) patients post penetrating keratoplasty (PKP) and KC patients without PKP, as well as a control group. Pachymetry measurements were also analyzed using a spectral domain OCT Solix (OCT Solix), Pentacam HR, and Casia. The study included 71 patients (136 keratoconic eyes; group A), 86 eyes with KC post-PKP (group B), 50 eyes with KC without PKP (group C), and 52 control participants (104 eyes).

Acute cardiovascular disorders are incriminated in up to 33% of maternal deaths, and the presence of sickle cell anemia (SCA) aggravates the risk of peripartum complications. Herein, we present a 24-year-old Caribbean woman with known SCA who developed a vaso-occlusive crisis at 36 weeks of gestation that required emergency Cesarean section. In the early postpartum period, she experienced fever with rapid onset of acute respiratory distress in the context of COVID-19 infection that required tracheal intubation and mechanical ventilatory support with broad-spectrum antibiotics and blood exchange transfusion.

: Women with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) are at higher risk for pregnancy complications. The PCOS population is heterogeneous, with different phenotypes linked to varying risks of adverse outcomes. However, literature on pre-conceptional hyperandrogenism is limited and based on small sample sizes.
