Starch digestion and glucose absorption were determined in vivo along the chick's (Gallus domesticus) intestine, using 91Y and 51Cr-EDTA as unabsorbed reference substances. About 65% of the ingested starch was digested up to the end of the duodenum, 85% up to the end of the jejunum and about 97% at the terminal ileum. A fraction of about 97% of the glucose, ingested or released from ingested starch, was absorbed. The duodenum was the major site of glucose absorption which continued at a decreased rate down the small intestine. Glucose absorption increased linearily with luminal concentration with no indication of saturation. The apparent permeability for glucose was similar for the jejunum and ileum.

Cinnamic Acid Sugar Ester Derivatives (CASEDs) are a class of natural compounds that exhibit several interesting biological activities. However, to date, no examples of their use in sunscreen formulations have been reported. Here, we describe the synthesis of a series of novel cinnamic acid esters of glucose (4a-g), ribose (4h) and lactose (4i) starting from the respective acetals 3.

Synthetic antidiabetic drugs are often associated with various adverse side effects, including hypoglycemia, nausea, gastrointestinal disturbances, headaches, and even liver damage. In contrast, plant-derived natural antidiabetic bioactive compounds typically exhibit lower toxicity and fewer side effects and have been reported to aid effectively in diabetes management. These plant extracts regulate diabetes by restoring pancreatic function, enhancing insulin secretion, inhibiting intestinal glucose absorption, and facilitating insulin dependent metabolism.

Background: To date, there is no effective cure for the highly malignant brain tumor glioblastoma (GBM). GBM is the most common, aggressive central nervous system tumor (CNS). It commonly originates in glial cells such as microglia, oligodendroglia, astrocytes, or subpopulations of cancer stem cells (CSCs).

Due to the growing concern about diabetes worldwide, we investigated the antidiabetic potential of Lactobacillus plantarum DMR14, assessing its effects on the diabetic mice and identifying safe, bioactive compounds targeting DPP4 protein for drug development through various methods, including in vivo assays, GC-MS analysis and molecular docking simulations. The animal experiments showed that after 3 weeks of treatment, the blood sugar levels of mice given the bacteria were reduced by 35.03% compared to baseline.

It is critical to sustain the diversity of the microbiota to maintain host homeostasis and health. Growing evidence indicates that changes in gut microbial biodiversity may be associated with the development of several pathologies, including type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Metformin is still the first-line drug for treatment of T2DM unless there are contra-indications.
