When rabbits were given intramuscular injections of the same quantities of human leukocyte or fibroblast interferons, the former produced moderately higher levels of circulating interferon. Fibroblast interferon was not cleared faster from circulation, nor was direct inactivation by rabbit blood responsible for this difference.

Podophyllotoxin, along with its numerous derivatives and related compounds, is well known for its broad-spectrum pharmacological activity, especially for anticancer potential. In this study, several isatin-podophyllotoxin hybrid compounds were successfully synthesized with good yields through microwave-prompted three-component reactions of 2-amino-1,4-naphthoquinone, various substituted isatins, and tetronic acid. Their cytotoxicity was assessed against four types of human cancer cell lines, HepG2 (hepatoma carcinoma), MCF7 (breast cancer), A549 (non-small lung cancer), and KB (epidermoid carcinoma), alongside nontumorigenic HEK-293 human embryonic kidney cells.

Hydroxysafflor yellow A: a natural pigment with potential anticancer therapeutic effect.

Front Pharmacol

January 2025

Key Laboratory of Drug-Targeting and Drug Delivery System of the Education Ministry, Sichuan Engineering Laboratory for Plant-Sourced Drug and Sichuan Research Center for Drug Precision Industrial Technology, West China School of Pharmacy, Department of Pharmacy, West China Hospital, Chengdu, China.

Hydroxysafflor yellow A (HSYA), a natural pigment with a chalcone structure extracted from (Safflower), has been widely proven to have good efficacy on cardiovascular diseases, atherosclerosis, cancer, and diabetes. However, no study has reported on the anticancer mechanisms of Hydroxysafflor yellow A (HSYA), a principal bioactive compound in safflower. This review discusses recent developments in the physicochemical properties and sources, pharmacological effects and mechanisms, pharmacokinetic progress, and safety of HSYA, focusing on the involvement of HSYA in the regulation of related pathways and mechanisms of apoptosis, autophagy, and the tumor immune microenvironment in a variety of cancers.

Identification of potential therapeutic phytocompounds targeting the G-glycoprotein of Nipah Virus: an in-silico study.

J Biomol Struct Dyn

January 2025

Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering Discipline, Life Science School, Khulna University, Khulna, Bangladesh.

Public health is seriously threatened by the highly pathogenic zoonotic Nipah virus (NIV). Since no effective medicines or vaccines exist, it is imperative to investigate potential therapeutic molecules against NIV. In this research, we concentrated on the G-glycoprotein of NIV as a potential therapeutic target.

, a high-altitude medicinal herb, possesses diverse therapeutic properties. This study conducted a comprehensive phytochemical analysis of the whole plant, leading to the isolation of 15 secondary metabolites (1-15) across various classes: flavonoids (), triterpenoids (, ), sesquiterpenoid lactones (, ) and furanocoumarins (, ) along with three steroids (). These compounds were characterized using NMR (HNMR,C NMR, 2D NMR), IR, HRMS and UV-VIS.
