Rationale And Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of ultrasound (US)-guided local steroid injection in carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) using shear wave elastography (SWE).

Materials And Methods: A total of 47 wrists from 41 patients diagnosed with mild to moderate idiopathic CTS, based on clinical and electrophysiological criteria, were enrolled between June and October 2024. All participants underwent US-guided local steroid injection.

Electronic address:

Background: The detection of abnormal brain activity plays an important role in the early diagnosis and treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD). Recent studies have shown that the decomposition of the electroencephalography (EEG) spectrum into periodic and aperiodic components is useful for identifying the drivers of electrophysiologic abnormalities and avoiding individual differences.

Methods: This study aimed to elucidate the pathologic changes in individualized periodic and aperiodic activities and their relationships with the symptoms of MDD.

Nathan Kline Institute for Psychiatric Research, Orangeburg, NY, USA; NYU Langone Health, New York, NY, USA.

Background: Clinical and preclinical evidence suggest that abnormal electrical activity strongly impacts outcomes in Alzheimer's disease (AD). Indeed, AD patients with interictal spikes (IIS) show faster cognitive decline than those without IIS. Furthermore, seizures in patients with AD have been suggested to accelerate disease progression.

Alzheimers Dement

December 2024

King's College London, London, England, United Kingdom.

Background: Recent developments in physiological and digital biomarkers provide an opportunity to shift the first diagnostic steps to the home-setting, thus allowing earlier detection and treatment of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Blood-based, magnetic resonance imaging, electrophysiological, digital and microbiome biomarkers have shown great promise and call for an evaluation of their accuracy, feasibility and safety in primary care and the community. The aim of PREDICTOM is to develop and test the accuracy of an artificial intelligence (AI) driven screening platform for the prediction and early detection of AD and to extend the clinical pathway to home-based screening using established and novel biomarkers.

Alzheimers Dement

December 2024

Alzheimer Research Centre KU Leuven, Leuven Brain Institute, Leuven, Belgium.

Background: In Alzheimer disease (AD) changes in the small world network have been described, which can be considered as the balance between local connectivity, exhibited with the "clustering coefficient", and global integration, investigated by "characteristic path length". With high-density EEG, we examined the effect of early spread of tau aggregates on these global graph measures.

Method: This study includes 47 participants who underwent a 100-minute dynamic F-MK6240 PET-scan and a five-minutes eyes closed 128-channel resting-state EEG.
