Background: Changes in cardiac function and structure as well as their association with the cardiac autonomic nervous system remain incompletely characterized in children with stage 5 chronic kidney disease (CKD) receiving hemodialysis (HD).

Methods: A prospective observational cohort study was conducted on 40 Egyptian children with CKD on regular HD compared to 40 age- and sex-matched healthy children. All participants underwent thorough clinical examination, laboratory investigations, 24-h Holter monitoring, and 2D/4D echocardiographic study (conventional and advanced modalities).

Background: Speckles tracking echocardiography imaging enables clinicians to detect subtle systolic dysfunction. The aim of the present study was to elucidate the differences in speckle tracking echocardiographic findings between immunoglobulin light chain amyloid cardiomyopathy (AL-CM) and transthyretin amyloid cardiomyopathy (TTR-CM).

Methods: The patients with a confirmed diagnosis of cardiac amyloidosis through cardiac biopsy from March 2013 to October 2022 were included.

Objective: This study evaluated the safety and efficacy of isoproterenol administration as an adjunct for achievement of target heart rate (HR) during dobutamine stress echocardiography (DSE).

Background: In DSE, optimal accuracy is achieved when a target HR of 85% of maximal predicted heart rate (MPHR) is attained. Although rarely studied, intravenous isoproterenol has been used as an adjunct therapy to dobutamine and atropine to increase chronotropic response during pharmacologic stress testing.

Background: Insulin- and non-insulin treated diabetes (ITDM and NITDM) have different prognostic impact in patients with myocardial infarction and/or heart failure. The aim of this study was to analyze the prognostic impact of ITDM and NTIDM on the incidence of all-cause mortality and major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE- cardiovascular death, nonfatal infarction, nonfatal stroke, and target vessel revascularization) in the 8-year follow-up of patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) with a reduced ejection fraction (EF).

Methods: We analyzed 2230 consecutive STEMI patients treated with primary percutaneous coronary intervention and with EF < 50%.

Severe bradycardia in patients with obstructive sleep apnoea and good early response to CPAP.

Sleep Breath

January 2025

Department of Cardiac and Vascular Diseases, Jagiellonian University Medical College, John Paul II Hospital, Prądnicka 80, Kraków, 31-202, Poland.

Background: Obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) may lead to heart rhythm abnormalities including bradycardia. Our aim was to ascertain clinical and echocardiographic parameters in patients with OSA in whom severe bradycardia was detected in an outpatient setting, as well as to evaluate the efficacy of CPAP therapy on heart rate normalization at the early stages of treatment.

Methods: Fifteen patients mild, moderate or severe OSA and concomitant bradycardia were enrolled.
