Prenatal diagnosis of congential enzymopenic methaemoglobinaemia (CEM) with mental retardation was performed in two fetuses at risk for generalized NADH-cytochrome b5 reductase deficiency. In the first case the enzyme activity of cultured amniotic cells was in the heterozygous to normal range. The mother delivered a normal baby with normal enzyme activity in cord blood cells. In the second case, the amniotic cells were almost completely enzyme deficient. The pregnancy was terminated, and the diagnosis of homozygous NADH-cytochrome b5 reductase deficiency was confirmed in cord blood cells, in several different tissues and in cultured fibroblasts from the aborted fetus.

Mitochondria play a crucial role in maintaining cellular health. It is interesting that the shape of mitochondria can vary depending on the type of cell, mitochondrial function, and other cellular conditions. However, there are limited studies that link functional assessment with mitochondrial morphology evaluation at high magnification, even fewer that do so in situ and none in human muscle biopsies.

Methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) deficiency is a rare autosomal recessive genetic disorder caused by mutations in the gene, leading to a variety of clinical manifestations. In October 2022, the Second Xiangya Hospital of Central South University admitted a 21-year-old male patient with neuropsychiatric disorders, presenting primarily with cognitive decline, limb tremors, abnormal mental and behavioral symptoms, seizures, and gait disturbances. These symptoms had gradually developed over 5 years, worsening significantly in the past year.

Purpose: Less than 5% of GI stromal tumors (GISTs) are driven by the loss of the succinate dehydrogenase (SDH) complex, resulting in a pervasive DNA hypermethylation pattern that leads to unique clinical features. Advanced SDH-deficient GISTs are usually treated with the same therapies targeting KIT and PDGFRA receptors as those used in metastatic GIST. However, these treatments display less activity in the absence of alternative therapeutic options.

Objective: 17β-Hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase 3 deficiency (17β-HSDD) and 5α-reductase type 2 deficiency (5α-RD) are rare 46,XY differences of sex development (DSD). This study aims to enlarge the limited knowledge on long-term gonadal function and gonadal pathology in these conditions.
Design: Retrospective multicentre cohort study.
