Background: Awake prone positioning (APP) can reportedly reduce the need for intubation and help improve prognosis of patients with acute hypoxemic respiratory failure (AHRF) infected with COVID-19. However, its physiological mechanism remains unclear. In this study, we evaluated the effect of APP on lung ventilation in patients with moderate-to-severe AHRF to better understand the effects on ventilation distribution and to prevent intubation in non-intubated patients.

Objective: The mortality risk for critically ill patients in the intensive care unit (ICU) can be predicted through clinical assessments and laboratory test results. The accurate utilization of these parameters is essential for timely intervention and the initiation of appropriate therapeutic strategies. This study aims to retrospectively examine the relationship between patients' clinical status at ICU admission, prognostic risk scoring systems, biochemical and hematological parameters, and mortality outcomes.

Though the evidence for soil property could influence the antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) profiles is mounting, studies regarding the effect of soil permeability on soil ARGs patterns are still ignored. This study investigated the dynamic distribution of ARGs in paddy fields with different soil permeability over various rice growing stages, as well as revealed the abiotic and biotic factors that shaping ARGs profiles. Results indicate that soil with high permeability improved the ARGs abundance through elevating the available nutrients in the soil.

Objectives: To analyse the effects on respiratory function, lung volume and the regional distribution of ventilation and perfusion of routine postural repositioning in mechanically ventilated critically ill patients.
Methods: Prospective descriptive physiological study. We evaluated gas-exchange, lung mechanics, and Electrical Impedance Tomography (EIT) determined end-expiratory lung impedance and regional ventilation and perfusion distribution in five body positions: supine-baseline (S1); first lateralisation at 30° (L1); second supine position (S2), second contralateral lateralisation (L2) and third final supine position (S3).

In modern manufacturing environments, pollution management is critical as exposure to harmful substances can cause serious health issues. This study presents a two-stage computational fluid dynamic (CFD) model to estimate the distribution of pollutants in indoor production spaces. In the first stage, the Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) method was used to simulate airflow and temperature.
