Simple vs Complex Aortic Arch Repair in Acute Type A Aortic Dissection.

J Am Coll Surg

January 2025

University of Florida Health, Division of Cardiovascular Surgery, Department of Surgery, Gainesville, Florida USA.

Background: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the clinical outcomes of patients undergoing a simpler (hemiarch) vs complex (zone 2 arch) aortic repair for acute type A aortic dissection (TAAD).

Methods: Adults (≥18 years) who underwent hemiarch or zone 2 arch repair for acute, hyperacute, or acute on chronic TAAD at a single institution between January 2018 and April 2024 were reviewed. Disabling stroke was defined as modified Rankin scale ≥4.

Background: While acute occlusion of the subclavian artery (SCA) proximal to the vertebral artery (VA) origin is an uncommon but recognized cause of embolic stroke, an occlusion distal to the VA is rare and can be easily overlooked.

Case Description: We describe the clinical presentation and evaluation of a previously healthy 56-year-old woman who experienced four life-threatening posterior circulation strokes within 1 month, three of which led to basilar artery (BA) occlusions requiring thrombectomies. Workup revealed an occlusion of the right SCA located less than 1 cm distal to the VA origin.

Deciphering cell states and the cellular ecosystem to improve risk stratification in acute myeloid leukemia.

Brief Bioinform

November 2024

State Key Laboratory of Cellular Stress Biology, Xiang'an Hospital, School of Life Sciences, Faculty of Medicine and Life Sciences, Xiamen University, No. 4221, Xiang'an South Road, Xiamen, Fujian 361102, China.

Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) demonstrates significant cellular heterogeneity in both leukemic and immune cells, providing valuable insights into clinical outcomes. Here, we constructed an AML single-cell transcriptome atlas and proposed sciNMF workflow to systematically dissect underlying cellular heterogeneity. Notably, sciNMF identified 26 leukemic and immune cell states that linked to clinical variables, mutations, and prognosis.

Interventricular septal dissection secondary to acute inferior myocardial infarction: case series and literature review.

J Cardiothorac Surg

January 2025

Echocardiography and Vascular Ultrasound Center, The First Affiliated Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine, 79 Qingchun Road, Hangzhou, 310003, China.

Background: Interventricular septal dissection is a critical disease characterized by the separation of the intraventricular septum into two layers, forming an intermediate layer with a cystic cavity that communicates with the root of the aorta or ventricle. It has low morbidity and high mortality rates.

Case Presentation: Case 1: A 58-year-old male with a history of hypertension and smoking presented to a local hospital due to chest tightness and pain for 4 days.
