The COVID-19 pandemic severely influenced human behavior due to governmental restrictions. In addition to administrative restrictions, other factors, like historical disease prevalence and culture might impact on recent behavior. The parasite stress theory of values and sociality predicts an influence of historical diseases on human culture and may be of important influence on current human behavioral responses towards the pandemic.

The Estuary of Huelva in southwestern Spain is severely impacted by acid mine drainage (AMD), primarily due to extensive mining activities in the Iberian Pyrite Belt (IPB), and to a lesser extent by industrial sources. The AMD has led to significant contamination of the Odiel and Tinto rivers, which carry high loads of metals into the estuary. In May 2017, an accidental spill occurred at La Zarza mine, releasing approximately 270,000 m of acidic water contained in a pit lake.

A growing number of studies have reported that neonicotinoid (NEO) and bisamide (BIS) insecticides are widespread in multimedium; however, limited information is available on their occurrence in wild freshwater fish. Therefore, in the Wanquan River with national aquatic germplasm resource reserves in Hainan, China, 502 fish containing 22 species were collected to investigate the occurrence of twelve NEOs and six BISs. The results showed that six NEOs and three BISs were detected in liver (ND-26.

To investigate the impact of polyacrylamide (PAM) on hydrolysis, acidification, and microbial properties during anaerobic fermentation of waste activated sludge (WAS), the fermentation system was supplemented with four different concentrations of PAM. Results showed that PAM inhibited WAS cell disruption, which reduced volatile fatty acid (VFA) production but increased the proportions of propionic acid. The addition of PAM reduced protease and α-glucosidase activities by 41.
