Discovering new antibiotics and increasing the efficacy of existing antibiotics are priorities to address antimicrobial resistance. Antimicrobial proteins and peptides (AMPPs) are considered among the most promising antibiotic alternatives and complementary therapies. Here, we build upon previous work investigating the antibacterial activity of a semi-purified hemolymph protein extract (HPE) of the Australian oyster Saccostrea glomerata.

The escalating prevalence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria has led to a serious global public health problem; therefore, there is an urgent need for the development of structurally innovative antibacterial agents. In our study, different series of tetra-substituted thiophene derivatives were designed and synthesized by multi-component reactions (MCRs) in moderate to excellent yields. Some of the designed final compounds were synthesized by both microwave assisted method and traditional synthesis.

Phytol is a diterpene from the long-chain unsaturated acyclic alcohols, known for its diverse biological effects, including antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory activities. Present in essential oils, phytol is a promising candidate for various applications in the pharmaceutical and biotechnological sectors. This study aimed to evaluate the antibacterial and drug-potentiating effects of phytol against multidrug-resistant bacteria and to evaluate its properties: ADME and molecular docking.

The global issue of insecticide resistance among pests is a major concern. Ectropis grisescens Warren (Lepidoptera: Geometridae), is a highly destructive leaf-eating pest distributed in tea plantations throughout China and Japan, and has exhibited resistance to various insecticides. Recent studies suggest that insect symbionts play a role in influencing insecticide resistance, however, their specific involvement in E.

Antibiotic resistance evolution driven synergistically by antibiotics and typical organic pollutants in antibiotic production wastewater.

State Key Joint Laboratory of Environment Simulation and Pollution Control, School of Environment, Tsinghua University, Beijing 100084, China; Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School, Shenzhen 518055, China. Electronic address:

A major concern regarding the risk of antibiotic production wastewater (APW) for the transmission of antibiotic resistance (AR) stems from the residual antibiotics. However, APW also contains high concentrations of organic pollutants, many of which have severe biological toxicity and joint toxicity with antibiotics. The contribution of these organic pollutants to the development of AR in the APW treatment system is unknown.
