Cows with high body condition scores experience more severe negative energy balance (NEB) and undergo mobilization of more body fat during the peripartum period, leading to more production of nonesterified fatty acids (NEFA) and -hydroxybutyric acid (BHBA). Postpartum insulin secretion is lower, and insulin resistance is stronger in obese cows. Exogenous insulin supplementation has been hypothesized as a key approach for regulating NEFA in these cows.

Background: Diabetes mellitus is associated with morphological and functional impairment of the heart primarily due to lipid toxicity caused by increased fatty acid metabolism. Extracellular signal-regulated protein kinases 1 and 2 (ERK1/2) have been implicated in the metabolism of fatty acids in the liver and skeletal muscles. However, their role in the heart in diabetes remains unclear.

Feline injection-site sarcomas (FISSs) are malignant skin tumors of mesenchymal origin arising at local post-vaccination (or injection) sites. In recent years, a fluorescence imaging technique based on probes targeting αβ integrin has been effectively applied for the surgical complete resection of the tumor. In our study, we investigated the utility of a commercially available anti-α integrin polyclonal antibody for the histopathological evaluation of FISS's surgical excision margins.

This study aimed to determine if local injection of C-X-C motif chemokine ligand 12 (CXCL12) reduces sphincter fibrosis, restores sphincter muscle content, vascularization, and innervation, and recruits progenitor cells in a rabbit model of anal sphincter injury and incontinence. Adult female rabbits were assigned to three groups: uninjured/no treatment (control), injured/treated (treated), and injured/no treatment (untreated) ( = 4 each). Injured groups were anesthetized, and a section of external anal sphincter was removed at the 9 o'clock position.

Background: In recent years, dexmedetomidine (DEX) has been proposed as a useful vasoconstrictor for local anesthesia because it is less effective in circulation than clonidine of antihypertensive drugs. In addition, DEX is expected to act as a vasoconstrictor during local anesthesia. However, histomorphometric studies demonstrating that DEX exerts vasoconstrictive effects are lacking.
