Background: Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) combined with anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) have been the standard first-line treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, the efficacy of this combination in post-line treatment is still unknown. Cancer is a major global health issue that is usually treated with multiple therapies, such as chemotherapy and targeted therapies like immunotherapy. Immunotherapy is a new and alternative approach to treating various types of cancer that are difficult to treat with other methods. Although immune checkpoint inhibitors have shown promise for long-term efficacy, they have limited effectiveness in common cancer types such as breast, prostate, and lung.

Alpelisib is a phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase inhibitor approved by the US Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of hormone receptor-positive metastatic breast cancer with (phosphatidylinositol-4,5-bisphosphate 3-kinase catalytic subunit α) mutation. In recent years a number of adverse effects have been observed to be associated with this therapy, the most notable of which is hyperglycemia. A literature search was conducted to include case studies, case series, systematic reviews, and meta-analyses within the last 10 years that evaluated patients with mutated hormone receptor-positive, human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 negative metastatic breast cancer.
