The effects that anthropogenic stressors may have on modulating species' plasticity has been relatively unexplored; however, it represents a scientific frontier that may offer insights into their ability to colonize new habitats. To explore the advantage that inhabiting polluted environments may offer to invasive species, we selected the crayfish Procambarus clarkii, a species that can colonize and thrive in a wide range of aquatic environments, including heavily polluted ones. Here, we studied the molecular and physiological responses of crayfish when experimentally exposed to a pesticide mix of azoxystrobin and oxadiazon at sublethal concentrations.

The Mercury (II) ion (Hg²⁺) is a toxic heavy metal that threatens biological systems by inducing oxidative stress and disrupting the redox balance. Biothiols such as cysteine (Cys), homocysteine (Hcy), and glutathione (GSH) are critical in maintaining redox homeostasis and are implicated in numerous physiological and pathological processes. Understanding the complex interactions between Hg²⁺ and biothiols requires molecular tools capable of simultaneous detection.

In sheep, gastrointestinal nematodes (GINs) can cause disease, reduced feed intake, and nutritional deficiencies. To counteract GINs, anthelmintics are widely used although it is well known they may enter the environment impacting ecosystems. In addition, anthelmintics resistance has rapidly developed and consequently, alternative approaches are crucial for profitable and sustainable sheep production.

To investigate the correlation between baseline serum concentrations of 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25-OHD) and quality of life (QoL), as well as pain perception in patients with chronic pain with long-term prescription opioid usage before opioid detoxification. We prospectively studied 45 patients with chronic pain with long-term prescription opioid usage who were selected for elective detoxification. Baseline serum 25-OHD levels were measured prior to detoxification, classifying patients as either vitamin D deficient (<75 nmol/L) or sufficient (≥75 nmol/L).
