After discussing the functional disadvantages arising after correction of presbyopia with uni--or multifocal lenses, the authors describe the optical and physiological advantages of a lens with progressively increasing power. The principal qualities of these physiologically progressive lenses are studies, and the results of a preliminary survey concerning their use are analysed. The indications for, and adaptation and tolerance of these lenses are outlined.

Purpose: To evaluate the objective and subjective visual quality 3 months after femtosecond laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis (FS-LASIK) performed with Q-value-guided optimized monovision scheme (Custom-Q) for correction of myopia with or without astigmatism and compensate for age-related accommodation deficiency.
Design: Prospective before-and-after study.
Methods: Patients who had Custom-Q FS-LASIK for myopia with age-related accommodation deficiency were included in this prospective study.

We investigated how long-term visual experience with habitual spherical aberration (SA) influences subjective depth of focus (DoF). Nine healthy cycloplegic eyes with habitual SAs of different signs and magnitudes were enrolled. An adaptive optics (AO) visual simulator was used to measure through-focus high-contrast visual acuity after correcting all monochromatic aberrations and imposing + 0.

Polypseudophakia, the concept of using a second intraocular lens (IOL) to supplement an IOL that has already been placed in the capsular bag, was first used as a corrective measure where the power requirement was higher than that of available single IOLs. Subsequently, the technique was modified to compensate for post-operative residual refractive errors. In these early cases, an IOL designed for the capsular bag would be implanted in the sulcus.

Introduction: Pinhole intraocular lenses (IOLs) were developed to improve reading by compensating for loss of accommodative function. The IC-8 Apthera™ is a small-aperture presbyopia-correcting IOL that combines the proven principle of small-aperture optics with an aspheric monofocal lens to deliver a continuous range of vision for patients with cataracts from distance to near vision. Posterior capsule opacification is the most common sequela after cataract surgery.

To evaluate clinical outcomes and visual quality after femtosecond laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis (FS-LASIK) performed with the Q-value-guided optimized monocular vision protocol (Custom-Q) for correction of low-to-moderate myopia and compensation for age-related accommodation deficiency. A prospective study was performed based on patients with myopia and age-related accommodation deficiency, who underwent Custom-Q FS-LASIK in the Peking University Third Hospital from October 2022 to October 2023. Monocular and binocular distance, intermediate, and near visual acuities, simulated whole-course visual acuity (binocular defocus curve), objective and subjective refractions, anterior corneal Q factor, anterior corneal higher-order aberrations and a subjective questionnaire assessing near visual acuity and visual quality were evaluated at 3 months postoperatively.
