Subject to study were some parameters of the nutritive value of carrot grown with the use of the herbicide prometryne introduced at a rate of 2 kg/ha. It was demonstrated that application of prometryne might exert an effect on the chemical composition of carrot and stimulate the synthesis of some of the nutrients (dry substances, sugars, vitamin C) on the one hand, and decrease the formation of other substances (carotene, some of the elements), on the other hand.

Quantification of pesticide dosage and determinants of excessive pesticide use in smallholder vegetable production systems in Tanzania.

Heliyon

December 2024

Tanzania Plant Health and Pesticides Authority (TPHPA), P.O. Box 3024, Arusha, Tanzania.

The use of pesticides for diseases and insect pest control has become a key component in smallholder vegetable production. This study therefore quantified the concentration of pesticide active ingredient per unit production land (kg a.i/ha), and drivers of increased pesticide use in smallholder vegetable production systems in Tanzania.

Atrazine is an endocrine-disrupting herbicide, with exposure impacting adverse outcomes along multiple endocrine pathways. This study investigated the neuroendocrine system as the central target of atrazine toxicity, examining effects of early developmental exposures on neurohormones and genes associated with kisspeptin, hypothalamic, pituitary, and dopamine systems. Zebrafish were exposed to 0, 0.

A green and efficient method for detecting nicosulfuron residues in field maize using hyperspectral imaging and deep learning.

J Hazard Mater

February 2025

College of Engineering, China Agricultural University, Beijing 100083, China; The Soil-Machine-Plant key laboratory of the Ministry of Agriculture of China, Beijing 100083, China.

Accurate and rapid detection of nicosulfuron herbicide residues in field-grown maize is essential for implementing chemical remediation and optimizing spraying strategies. However, current detection methods are costly and time-consuming. This study analyzed residue levels in six maize varieties-both resistant and sensitive types-under two herbicide concentrations, categorizing residues into low, medium, and high levels.

Background/objectives: Johnsongrass () is an erect tetraploid, perennial, C4 grass weed species categorized among the world's most noxious weeds due to its high competitive ability against crops and the increased number of field-evolved herbicide-resistant populations. The aim of the present study was to assess the growth rate and performance of resistant (R) johnsongrass genotypes hosting Trp574Leu target-site cross-resistance at gene, inhibiting various herbicides, compared to susceptible (S) conspecific weeds, in the absence and presence of corn or sunflower antagonism.

Methods: The aboveground biomass, tiller, and rhizome production ability of one S and one R johnsongrass population with a Trp574-Leu substitution conferring cross-resistance to ALS-inhibiting herbicides were compared under non-competitive conditions.

Pulses are essential components of vegetarian diet and play a pivotal role in addressing malnutrition by providing a vital source of dietary protein. However, weed competition remains as a significant obstacle to blackgram (Vigna mungo L) production, resulting in 25 to 35% yield losses. A field experiment was carried out at the National Pulses Research Centre, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Vamban, Pudukkottai, India during Kharif seasons of 2020 and 2021, to assess the suitable post-emergence herbicides for appropriate weed control in blackgram grown under irrigated conditions.
