The effects of intracerebroventricular administration of cholecystokinin (CCK) antiserum )specific for COOH-terminal four amino acids) of CCK were tested in three dilutions on the dopamine (DA), norepinephrine (NE) and serotonin (5-HT) contents of the hypothalamus, amygdala, septum, striatum and cerebral cortex in rats 24 h following application. CCK antiserum decreased the DA and NE contents in the hypothalamus, mesencephalon, amygdala and septum, while it increased the DA content and decreased the NE content of the striatum. It had a slight effect on the 5-HT contents of the amygdala, septum and striatum.

While hypothalamic kisspeptin (KP) neurons play well-established roles in the estrogen-dependent regulation of reproduction, little is known about extrahypothalamic KP-producing (KP) neurons of the lateral septum. As established previously, expression in this region is low and regulated by estrogen receptor- and GABA receptor-dependent mechanisms. Our present experiments on knock-in mice revealed that transgene expression in the LS begins at P33-36 in females and P40-45 in males and is stimulated by estrogen receptor signaling.

Regulator of G protein signalling 14 (RGS14) is a multifunctional signalling protein that serves as a natural suppressor of synaptic plasticity in the mouse brain. Our previous studies showed that RGS14 is highly expressed in postsynaptic dendrites and spines of pyramidal neurons in hippocampal area CA2 of the developing mouse brain. However, our more recent work with monkey brain shows that RGS14 is found in multiple neuron populations throughout hippocampal area CA1 and CA2, caudate nucleus, putamen, globus pallidus, substantia nigra and amygdala.
