A brief history of echoencephalography is given. Recent advances in ultrasonic technology have resulted in renewed interest in the subject. The neonatal brain can now be reliably visualised with systems which are widely available. Ultrasound examination is a relatively simple, safe procedure which does not cause distress to the patient. This makes it particularly suited to investigation of neonates. The examination technique used in our department is described. Other techniques and studies comparing ultrasound with other modalities are briefly reviewed.

Sweet potatoes are a rich source of nutrients and bioactive compounds, but their quality can be impacted by the drying process. This study investigates the impact of slot jet reattachment (SJR) nozzle and ultrasound (US) combined drying (SJR + US) on sweet potato quality, compared to freeze-drying (FD), SJR drying, and hot air drying (HAD). SJR + US drying at 50 °C closely resembled FD in enhancing quality attributes and outperformed HAD and SJR in key areas such as rehydration, shrinkage ratios, and nutritional composition.

Owing to the long duration of cooking legumes, which limits their consumption and utilization, soaking has been used to reduce cooking time, save energy consumption, and diminish their hardness. However, limited studies have reported the influence of cooking and soaking treatment along with ultrasonication on hydration, hardness, and cooking time reduction of legumes. Therefore, this study investigated the impact of cooking and soaking treatments on Dr.

The effect of ultrasound and plasma pretreatment on freeze-dried kiwifruit crisps was investigated in this study. Using unpretreated kiwifruit as a control group (CG), the effects of ultrasound (US), plasma-activated water (PAW), ultrasound combined with plasma-activated water (UPAW), plasma-jet (PJ), and ultrasound combined with plasma-jet (UPJ) on the quality of vacuum freeze-dried kiwifruit were investigated. The results showed that all the pretreatments could change the microstructure of the crisps.

Background: With increasing consumer demand for healthy and sustainable food, plant proteins have been used widely in meat substitutes, dairy alternatives, and functional foods. However, in comparison with animal proteins, plant proteins often exhibit weaker functional properties, such as solubility, emulsifying, and gelation, which limit their application in food processing. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of high-intensity ultrasound treatments (HIUTs) on the physicochemical properties, structural characteristics, emulsifying properties, and antioxidant capacity of shiitake mushroom protein isolate (SMPI).

Geopolymer concrete (GPC) offers a sustainable alternative by eliminating the need for cement, thereby reducing carbon dioxide emissions. Using durable concrete helps prevent the corrosion of reinforcing bars and reduces spalling caused by chemical attacks. This study investigates the impact of adding 5, 10, and 15% silica fumes (SF) on the mechanical and durability properties of GPC cured at 60 °C for 24 h.
