Background: Collaborative Workspaces are rapidly growing and evolving across the world. Traditionally understood as an urban phenomenon, most research understands them as either 'entrepreneurial-led', as profit-driven and commercial spaces such as business incubators and accelerators, or 'community-led' as being bottom-up, not-for-profit ventures aimed at catering for the needs of their community. Recent years however have seen their diffusion beyond large urban agglomerations to small towns and villages, with their functions assumed to be more community-orientated.

Insect farming: A bioeconomy-based opportunity to revalorize plastic wastes.

Environ Sci Ecotechnol

January 2025

Global Centre for Environmental Remediation (GCER), College of Engineering, Science and Environment, University of Newcastle, Callaghan, NSW, 2308, Australia.

Managing plastic waste is one of the greatest challenges humanity faces in the coming years. Current strategies-landfilling, incineration, and recycling-remain insufficient or pose significant environmental concerns, failing to address the growing volume of plastic residues discharged into the environment. Recently, increasing attention has focused on the potential of certain insect larvae species to chew, consume, and partially biodegrade synthetic polymers such as polystyrene and polyethylene, offering novel biotechnological opportunities for plastic waste management.

In overcoming the barrier of rapid Li transfer in lithium-ion batteries at extreme temperatures, the desolvation process and interfacial charge transport play critical roles. However, tuning the solvation structure and designing a kinetically stable electrode-electrolyte interface to achieve high-rate charging and discharging remain a challenge. Here, a lithium nonafluoro-1-butanesulfonate (NFSALi) additive is introduced to optimize stability and the robust solid electrolyte interface film (SEI), realizing a rapid Li transfer process and the structural integrity of electrode materials.
