Quantitative and functional changes in peritoneal macrophages from mice infected with Trypanosoma musculi were investigated. Increase in the number and size and in the protein content of peritoneal macrophages and the presence of parasites in the peritoneal activity were observed during the course of parasitemia. Induced releases of H2O2 by macrophages were increased during parasitemia, but H2O2 release returned to normal after infection. A correlation was also observed between parasitemia and 99mTc colloidal uptake by peritoneal macrophages. These changes in macrophage function may indicate an activation of these cells.

Abnormal autophagy regulation is implicated in lupus and other autoimmune diseases. We investigated autophagy in the murine pristane-induced lupus model. Pristane causes monocyte/macrophage-mediated endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress in lung endothelial cells and diffuse alveolar hemorrhage (DAH) indistinguishable from DAH in lupus patients.

PerC B-Cells Activation via Thermogenetics-Based CXCL12 Generator for Intraperitoneal Immunity Against Metastatic Disseminated Tumor Cells.

During cancer peritoneal metastasis (PM), conventional antigen-presenting cells (dendritic cells, macrophages) promote tumorigenesis and immunosuppression in peritoneal cavity. While intraperitoneal immunotherapy (IPIT) has been used in clinical investigations to relieve PM, the limited knowledge of peritoneal immunocytes has hindered the development of therapeutic IPIT. Here, a dendritic cell-independent, next-generation IPIT is described that activates peritoneal cavity B (PerC B) cell subsets for intraperitoneal anti-tumor immunity via exogenous antigen presentation.

Genetic variation in IL-4 activated tissue resident macrophages determines strain-specific synergistic responses to LPS epigenetically.

How macrophages in the tissue environment integrate multiple stimuli depends on the genetic background of the host, but this is still poorly understood. We investigate IL-4 activation of male C57BL/6 and BALB/c strain specific in vivo tissue-resident macrophages (TRMs) from the peritoneal cavity. C57BL/6 TRMs are more transcriptionally responsive to IL-4 stimulation, with induced genes associated with more super enhancers, induced enhancers, and topologically associating domains (TAD) boundaries.

Background: Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a persistent chronic, non-specific inflammatory disease, and macrophages play a crucial role in its pathogenesis. Spleen tyrosine kinase (Syk) is strongly associated with the pathogenesis of several inflammatory diseases. However, the role of Syk in the pathogenesis of UC is still obscure.

Methylglyoxal-Stimulated Mesothelial Cells Prompted Fibroblast-to-Proto-Myofibroblast Transition.

During long-term peritoneal dialysis, peritoneal fibrosis (PF) often happens and results in ultrafiltration failure, which directly leads to the termination of dialysis. The accumulation of extracellular matrix produced from an increasing number of myofibroblasts was a hallmark characteristic of PF. To date, glucose degradation products (GDPs, i.
