The authors compared the results of bone scintigraphy and determination of CEA levels in a group consisting of 167 patients suffering from breast cancer with suspect distant metastases. The high agreement (79%) in results of both of examinations increase the diagnostic reliability of distant metastases. In the case of disagreement the bone scanning should be considered as a more sensitive method. The elevated CEA levels at negative or only uncertain bone scintigraphy results most often prove the present of distant metastases outside the skeleton.

Background: Despite advances in uveal melanoma (UM) diagnosis and treatment, about 50% of patients develop distant metastases, thereby displaying poor overall survival. Molecular profiling has identified several genetic alterations that can stratify patients with UM into different risk categories. However, these genetic alterations are currently dispersed over multiple studies and several methodologies, emphasizing the need for a defined workflow that will allow standardized and reproducible molecular analyses.

At the end of the past century, the introduction of Total Mesorectal Excision (TME), preceded by either short-course radiotherapy (SCRT) or chemoradiation (CRT), established the new standard of care for locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC). Recently, significant advancements were achieved for both dMMR/MSI and pMMR/MSS LARC patients. For the 2-3% of dMMR/MSI LARCs, ablative immunotherapy emerged as a curative approach, offering the possibility of avoiding chemotherapy (CT), radiotherapy, and surgery altogether.

Thermal ablation has been widely used for patients with small colorectal liver metastases (CRLMs), even for resectable cases; however, solid evidence has been scarce. Some propensity-score matching studies using patients with balanced baseline characteristics have confirmed less invasiveness and the comparable survival benefits of thermal ablation to liver resection. A more recent pivotal randomized controlled trial comparing thermal ablation and liver resection was presented during the American Society of Clinical Oncology 2024 meeting.

Background: Muscle-invasive bladder carcinomas (MIBCs) exhibit significant heterogeneity, with diverse histopathological features associated with varied prognosis and therapeutic response. Although genomic profiling studies have identified several molecular subtypes of MIBC, two basic molecular subtypes are identified - luminal and basal, differing in biological behaviour and response to treatment. As molecular subtyping is complex, surrogate immunohistochemical (IHC) markers have been used to determine the molecular subtypes with good correlation to genomic profiling.

Salivary gland tumor is one of the most common tumors in oral and maxillofacial regions. The diagnosis and treatment of salivary gland tumors had been a clinical characteristic project in Peking University School and Hospital of Stomatology since long time ago. Here we introduced the research progress in diagnosis and treatment of salivary gland tumors during the past 10 years.
