The carcinogenic activity of 3-amino-1-methyl-5H-pyrido[4,3-b]indole (Trp-P-2), a pyrolysis product of tryptophan, was studied in inbred strain ACI rats. Twenty rats received a diet containing 0.01% Trp-P-2 for 870 days. Nineteen rats survived for more than 400 days after the start of feeding, 1 rat developed a hemangioendothelial sarcoma of the liver, and 6 rats developed neoplastic liver nodules. These liver tumors were found only in female rats that died 666--870 days after the start of feeding. No liver tumors were found in control animals.

The increasing prevalence of cancer has been linked to various environmental factors associated with modern industrial and societal advancements. Di-(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP), a commonly used plasticizer, is one such environmental contaminant with potential carcinogenic effects. While epidemiological studies have suggested a positive association between DEHP exposure and cancer risk, the specific role of DEHP in cancer initiation and progression requires further clarification.

Jiangsu Key Laboratory of Drug Design & Optimization, Department of Medicinal Chemistry, China Pharmaceutical University, Nanjing 211198, PR China. Electronic address:

Dysregulation of the fibroblast growth factor receptor 1 (FGFR1) signaling has prompted efforts to develop therapeutic agents, which is a carcinogenic driver of many cancers, including breast, prostate, bladder, and chronic myeloid leukemia. Despite significant progress in the development of potent and selective FGFR inhibitors, the long-term efficacy of these drugs in cancer therapy has been hampered by the rapid onset of acquired resistance. Therefore, more drug discovery strategies are needed to promote the development of FGFR-targeted drugs.

In recent decades, the study of heavy metal pollution has garnered significant attention owing to the advancement of industrialization. To explore the contamination of heavy metals in an intensive industrial and agricultural region in Shandong province, China, 101 surface soil samples and 80 samples of edible crop parts were collected from the vicinity of an industrial park. A positive matrix factorization-multilayer perceptron model (PMF-MLP) was established to identify the sources of heavy metals and quantify the complex relationships between pollution sources, crop types, and pollution status.

Indoor dust can adsorb various pollutants and long-term deposition can significantly impact air quality and human health. This study investigated the occurrence, source apportionment, and health risks associated with polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and their derivatives (d-PAHs) in indoor dust, by focusing on residential and public buildings in Nanjing, China. The concentration of 16 PAHs and 27 d-PAHs ranged from 511 to 5472 ng/g and from 422 to 2904 ng/g, with the most abundant compounds being fluoranthene and 1,2-benz[a]anthraquinone, respectively.

Amino acids, as the fundamental constituents of proteins and enzymes, play a vital role in various biological processes. Amino acids such as histidine, cysteine, and methionine are known to coordinate with metal ions in proteins and enzymes, playing critical roles in their structure and function. In metalloproteins, metal ions are often coordinated by specific amino acid residues, contributing to the protein's stability and catalytic activity.
