In situ preservation is the primary strategy to preserve parathyroid gland (PG) function during thyroid surgery, while autotransplantation is used when inadvertent removal or devascularization occurs. Deciding on the optimal approach intraoperatively for exposed PGs remains challenging. This study evaluates intraoperative PG management strategies and long-term outcomes of PG function following total thyroidectomy.

Objectives: This study aimed to develop a model for predicting peripheral lymph node metastasis (LNM) in thyroid cancer patients by combining enhanced CT radiomic features with machine learning algorithms. It increased the clinical utility and interpretability of the predictions through SHAP (SHapley Additive exPlanation) values and nomograms for model explanation and visualization.
Methods: Clinical and enhanced CT image data from 375 patients with thyroid cancer confirmed by postoperative pathology at Xiangyang No.

Background: Cancer remains a significant public health challenge in Europe, with substantial regional disparities in incidence, mortality, and access to healthcare. This study analyses cancer patterns across Eastern, Northern, Southern, and Western Europe in 2022, highlighting key public health implications and gaps in prevention and treatment.
Methods: Using data from GLOBOCAN 2022, this study assessed total new cancer cases, age-standardized incidence and mortality rates (ASRs) per 100,000, and cumulative cancer risk at age 75.

Predicting and quantifying phenotypic consequences of genetic variants in rare disorders is a major challenge, particularly pertinent for 'actionable' genes such as thyroid hormone transporter MCT8 (encoded by the X-linked SLC16A2 gene), where loss-of-function (LoF) variants cause a rare neurodevelopmental and (treatable) metabolic disorder in males. The combination of deep phenotyping data with functional and computational tests and with outcomes in population cohorts, enabled us to: (i) identify the genetic aetiology of divergent clinical phenotypes of MCT8 deficiency with genotype-phenotype relationships present across survival and 24 out of 32 disease features; (ii) demonstrate a mild phenocopy in ~400,000 individuals with common genetic variants in MCT8; (iii) assess therapeutic effectiveness, which did not differ among LoF-categories; (iv) advance structural insights in normal and mutated MCT8 by delineating seven critical functional domains; (v) create a pathogenicity-severity MCT8 variant classifier that accurately predicted pathogenicity (AUC:0.91) and severity (AUC:0.

Breast cancer is a prevalent and highly heterogeneous malignancy that continues to be a major global health concern. Voltage-gated sodium channels are primarily known for their role in neuronal excitability, but emerging evidence suggests their involvement in the pathogenesis of various cancers, including breast cancer. However, the effect of β-subunits on breast cancer cells is not yet studied.
