Pyelo-ureteral duplication is often considered as having little clinical significance. This is not always true. An isolated superior segment of a dysplastic kidney may be at the origin of severe infections or abnormal urinary discharge. Lacking urinary concentration it escapes to normal classic diagnostic procedures. Three cases are presented and discussed.

We present a six-step cascade that converts 1,3-distyrylbenzenes (-stilbenes) into nonsymmetric pyrenes in 40-60% yields. This sequence merges photochemical steps, ,-alkene isomerization, a 6π photochemical electrocyclization (Mallory photocyclization); the new bay region cyclization, with two radical iodine-mediated aromatization steps; and an optional aryl migration. This work illustrates how the inherent challenges of engineering excited state reactivity can be addressed by logical design.

Measures to curb the spread of SARS-CoV-2 impacted not only COVID-19 dynamics, but also other infectious diseases, such as dengue in Brazil. The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted not only transmission dynamics due to changes in mobility patterns, but also several aspects of surveillance, such as care seeking behavior and clinical capacity. However, we lack a clear understanding of the overall impact on dengue in different parts of Brazil and the contribution of individual causal drivers.

Among these, cardiac involvement in carcinoid disease is a rare cause of tricuspid valve disease with a peculiar echocardiographic aspect. They include hairy cell leukemia in its classic form (HCL), a well-defined entity, but also the variant form of HCL (LT-V ou HCL-V), whose presentation is far from HCL and whose prognosis is poorer. Other hairy cell proliferations include splenic red pulp lymphoma (SDRPL) and splenic marginal zone lymphomas (SMZL) with circulating villous cells.
