Pupil dilation from commercially available phenylephrine compounds was studied in a group of 11 subjects. Phenylephrine 10% (aq) did not produce significantly more mydriasis than phenylephrine 2.5% (aq) in the general population (P less than 0.05). This suggests that phenylephrine 2.5% can be used instead of phenylephrine 10% for diagnostic dilation.

Quercetin is known to reduce blood pressure (BP); however, its acute effects are unclear. We investigated the acute effects of quercetin on BP, aortic mechanical properties and vascular reactivity in female Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats. Hypertension was induced using L-NAME (40 mg/kg/day).

American alligators () are an important apex predator of semiaquatic habitats of the southern United States. Commercial alligator farming has grown in the last several decades, leading to a need to understand the health conditions that affect this species to ensure appropriate management and welfare. The aims of this study were 1) to establish and describe normative data including results of common ophthalmic diagnostic tests and conjunctival flora, 2) document ocular pathology in this population, and 3) assess the effect of topical rocuronium bromide and 10% phenylephrine for facilitating pharmacologic mydriasis.

Coingestion of cardiovascular drugs with angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEIs) can be associated with refractory shock derangements complicated by vasopressor resistance, prompting the use of novel, unconventional, or uncommonly used agents. A young adult male presented to the emergency department (ED) 10 h after ingesting lisinopril and amlodipine. On arrival, he was hypotensive with a blood pressure of 72/39 mmHg.

Donation after circulatory death (DCD) livers face increased risks of critical complications when preserved with static cold storage (SCS). Although machine perfusion (MP) may mitigate these risks, its cost and logistical complexity limit widespread application. We developed the Dynamic Organ Storage System (DOSS), which delivers oxygenated perfusate at 10°C with minimal electrical power requirement and allows real-time effluent sampling in a portable cooler.
