AI Article Synopsis

  • The Kodak Daylight System is designed to save space and consists of three main components: the Kodak-X-Omat cassette, an identification camera, and a cassette multiloader for loading and reloading.
  • All components are user-friendly and prioritize safe operation, allowing for the use of various film brands.
  • The system's automatic loading feature minimizes dirt accumulation and wear on the intensifying screen, leading to improved workflow and positive reception from users.

Article Abstract

The Kodak Daylight System is space-saving. It consists of the Kodak-X-Omat cassette, the identification camera and the loading and reloading device (cassette multiloader). All three units of this system are notable for extremely safe operation. Handling is simple and easily appreciated. All brands of film can be used. The data window in the cassette is too large; in some cases, important sections of the image can be covered up by the window. Automatic loading and reloading considerably reduces soiling of the cassette, which is otherwise common, and also reduces abrasion of the intensifying screen. Introduction of this system has had a beneficial effect on overall working and has been welcomed by all concerned as a contribution towards facilitating routine work.

PaveDistress: A comprehensive dataset of pavement distresses detection.

Data Brief

December 2024

Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, Piscataway, NJ 08854, USA.

Article Synopsis
  • The PaveDistress dataset consists of high-resolution images of various road surface distresses like cracks and potholes, all captured on the S315 highway in China using a specialized vehicle equipped with advanced imaging technology.
  • The images, taken at 1mm intervals under diverse lighting conditions, are categorized into specific types of distresses, allowing for precise identification and measurement of defects.
  • This dataset serves as a resource for developing deep learning models aimed at non-destructive road defect detection, benefiting civil engineering research and road maintenance systems.

Modeling the effect of daytime duration on the biosynthesis of terpenoid precursors.

Terpenoids are valued chemicals in the pharmaceutical, biotechnological, cosmetic, and biomedical industries. Biosynthesis of these chemicals relies on polymerization of Isopentenyl di-phosphate (IPP) and/or dimethylallyl diphosphate (DMAPP) monomers, which plants synthesize using a cytosolic mevalonic acid (MVA) pathway and a plastidic methyleritritol-4-phosphate (MEP) pathway. Circadian regulation affects MVA and MEP pathway activity at three levels: substrate availability, gene expression of pathway enzymes, and utilization of IPP and DMAPP for synthesizing complex terpenoids.

Background: Physical locations play an essential yet often overlooked role in healthcare implementation processes. Implementation Science frameworks such as the Theoretical Domains Framework, the Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research, and the Implementation in Context framework acknowledge the importance of the physical environment, but they often treat it as a passive backdrop for change. However, from a cultural geographic perspective, spaces and places are dynamic, influencing behavior, social structures, and the acceptance of new practices.

Understanding user challenges with light dosimeters is crucial for designing more acceptable devices and advancing light exposure research. We systematically evaluated the usability and acceptability of a light dosimeter (lido) with 29 participants who wore the dosimeter near the corneal plane of the eye for 5 days. Common reasons for not wearing the dosimeter included exercise, recharging, wet environments, public places, and discomfort.

Critical care nurses are faced with increasing task loads due to increasing patient complexity. In addition to this complexity, most critical care patients have a maze of infusion and monitoring lines that must be navigated when administering medications. Task load is escalated when a nurse must identify an injection port and administer a medication rapidly.
