A common feature that most -altered tumors share is the histologic makeup of monomorphic ovoid cells organized in distinct nests and an arborizing vascular blood supply.

Assessment and quantitative analysis of hip surrounding muscles in children with developmental dysplasia of the hip via magnetic resonance imaging.

J Orthop Surg Res

December 2024

Department of Pediatric Orthopedics, Shengjing Hospital of China Medical University, No. 36 Sanhao Street, Heping District, Shenyang City, Liaoning Province, 110004, China.

Background: The muscles that encase the hip serve a crucial role in both joint stability and functional efficacy, and as developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) progresses, the surrounding musculature may undergo specific adaptations that reduce joint stability, thereby exacerbating dislocation. Yet, the exact nature of changes in muscle morphology and quality remains inadequately investigated. This study aimed to compare magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) evaluations of the iliopsoas and other hip flexor and extensor muscles in children with unilateral DDH before and after treatment.

Complex perianal abscess: a case report of shooting from the hip.

J Surg Case Rep

January 2025

Department of General Surgery, Cairns Hospital, 165 The Esplanade, Cairns 4870, Australia.

The perianal abscess is a common emergency surgical presentation. While in most cases simple drainage suffices, occasionally the abscess can track deeply presenting a management challenge. We describe the case of a complex circumferential horseshoe ischioanal abscess with extension below the levator ani through the greater sciatic notch and into the left gluteal region, with the collection involving the intergluteal space and gluteus maximus.

Can surface landmarks help us identify the gibson interval during surgical hip dislocation: a study of 617 hips.

Arch Orthop Trauma Surg

December 2024

Department of Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology, HFR Cantonal Hospital, University of Fribourg, Fribourg, Switzerland.

Introduction: The Gibson approach, used in hip-preserving surgery, is intermuscular and develops the space anteriorly to the gluteus maximus. Reliable anatomical landmarks for the development of this interval do not exist, but the interval is marked by perforating vessels (PV) of the inferior gluteal artery. The aim of this study was to provide reference values for the relationship between palpable anatomical landmarks on the femur/pelvis and the anterior border of the gluteus maximus using CT scans of the proximal femur.

This study aimed to evaluate the muscle activation ratio of hip and knee during hip-focused exercises. Eleven active university students performed 13 hip-focused exercises frequently used in the treatment of knee disorders. The average sEMG amplitude of tensor fasciae latae (TFL), gluteus medius (GMed), gluteus maximus (GMax), adductor longus (AL), vastus medialis (VM), vastus lateralis (VL), and GMed/AL, GMax/AL, and VL/VM ratios were determined.
