Objectives: To assess the incidence and clinical findings associated with the presence of ammonium urate urolithiasis in dogs with congenital portosystemic shunts.
Materials And Methods: A retrospective review of dogs diagnosed with extrahepatic portosystemic shunts or intrahepatic portosystemic shunts in 15 referral hospitals between 2010 and 2023. Data including signalment, clinical signs, physical examination findings and clinicopathologic test results at the time of the diagnosis were collected, and the presence of ammonium urate urolithiasis was recorded.

Background: Urocystolithiasis is a common problem in dogs; many canine uroliths are resistant to medical dissolution. Novel management options would expand, and in some cases improve, current urolith retrieval strategies.
Hypothesis/objectives: To describe a previously unreported technique by the Ellik bladder evacuator (EE) to assist in minimally invasive, cystoscopic retrieval of canine cystoliths.

The formation of polycrystalline aggregates in the glomerulus or other components of the urinary system is indisputably the most critical step in the formation of kidney stones and calcium oxalate monohydrate (CaCO·HO) is the most prevalent form. On the other hand, Annexin A1 (ANXA1), a calcium-binding protein, markedly increased on the apical surface of renal cells in CaCO-induced nephrolithiasis. In this regard, we identified the peptide motif responsible for calcium binding and redesigned it into a self-assembling peptide sequence without disturbing its binding selectivity for the CaCO interface.

Objective: To determine the complication rate of canine scrotal urethrostomy (SU) performed with poliglecaprone 25 and identify risk factors for complications.
Animals: We studied 67 dogs treated with SU.
Procedure: Medical records of dogs that underwent SU between 2011 and 2023 at Garden State Veterinary Specialists and its satellite hospitals were reviewed.
