Effectiveness of iNTS vaccination in sub-Saharan Africa.

Fondazione Achille Sclavo ONLUS, Via Fiorentina, Siena, 53100, Italy.

Invasive non-Typhoidal Salmonella (iNTS) is one of the leading causes of blood stream infections in Sub-Saharan Africa, especially among children. iNTS can be difficult to diagnose, particularly in areas where malaria is endemic, and difficult to treat, partly because of the emergence of antibiotic resistance. We developed a mathematical model to evaluate the impact of a vaccine for iNTS in 49 countries of sub-Saharan Africa.

The antimicrobial properties and widespread incorporation of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) into consumer products have raised concerns about their potential impact on public health and the environment. This study examined citrate-coated and uncoated AgNPs' antimicrobial effects on microbial growth and their potential to induce antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in the natural environment. We isolated Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Salmonella spp.

Despite conducting studies to investigate food contamination in hospitals in different parts of Iran in recent years, there have been no reliable studies to identify Salmonella enteritidis, Salmonella typhimurium, Bacillus cereus, Bacillus subtilis, and Clostridium perfringens in hospital food in Mashhad. Therefore, this study was conducted with the aim of investigating some major foodborne pathogens in hospital food. In this study, 360 food samples were randomly selected from 12 different menus from 13 hospitals affiliated with Mashhad University of Medical Sciences, Mashhad, Iran.

S. Typhimurium bacteria cause one of the most recurrent gastrointestinal diseases worldwide. This bacterium can settle in the gastrointestinal tract and internalize into different cellular strains, causing the formation of cellular reservoirs that subsequently lead to systemic dissemination.

This study aimed to characterize Salmonella and Yersinia enterocolitica detected in fattening pigs in Sardinia, examining genetic similarity and antimicrobial resistance of isolates from farms and slaughterhouses and evaluating carcass hygiene. Environmental samples were collected from six pig farms, and the same pigs were also sampled at the slaughterhouses. Palatine tonsils, mesenteric lymph nodes, colon content, and carcass surface samples were collected and tested for Salmonella and Y.
