Rationale & Objective: Data supporting the efficacy of preventive pharmacological therapy (PPT) to reduce urolithiasis recurrence are based on clinical trials with composite outcomes that incorporate imaging findings and have uncertain clinical significance. This study evaluated whether the use of PPT leads to fewer symptomatic stone events.

Patients with chronic diarrhoea or ileostomies suffer from electrolyte and urinary disorders and are prone to developing uric acid or calcium oxalate stones. Evidence is lacking regarding the management of uric acid stones in patients with inflammatory bowel diseases. We present the case of a male patient with Crohn's disease and carrying an ileostomy.

The aim of the present study was to investigate whether patients with psoriasis are prone to urolithiasis. Prospective analysis of 67 patients diagnosed as psoriasis (PS group) and 65 volunteers who had never been diagnosed as psoriasis (NPS group) was performed. The levels of oxalate, citrate, calcium, uric acid, magnesium, creatinine, and sodium were evaluated by analyzing the 24-h urine samples.

Introduction: American Urological Association (AUA) guidelines suggest metabolic testing via 24-h urine studies in high-risk, interested first-time stone formers, and recurrent stone formers. If metabolic testing is not available or otherwise not feasible, clinicians may need to utilize empiric therapy. Debility and social barriers, particularly in the elderly population, may limit the practicality of metabolic testing, and therefore, empiric therapy is of particular importance.
