Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) is a highly sensitive technology to detect target analytes. The construction of dynamic "hot-spots" represents a significant approach to enhancing detection sensitivity. Herein, a hybrid plasma platform with dynamic "hot-spots" was developed for SERS recognition based on the assembly of gold nanospheres (AuNSs) on temperature-sensitive bacterial cellulose (BC) film grafted with poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM).

Virtual preoperative anaesthetic assessments can significantly reduce healthcare costs and improve patient convenience. The challenge with virtual consults is often the airway assessments, which screen for potentially difficult airways (PDAs). The objective of this pilot study was to determine the reliability of standard airway screening tests for detecting PDAs when conducted virtually.

Cystic fibrosis (CF) is an autosomal recessive disorder caused by mutations in the gene. Currently, CFTR modulators are the most effective treatment for CF; however, they may not be suitable for all patients. A representative and convenient model is needed to screen therapeutic agents under development.

Bovine brucellosis (bB) is a zoonosis mainly caused by the species in cattle. Bovine brucellosis can present with either a range of clinical symptoms, including spontaneous abortions in the last trimester of pregnancy, retained fetal membranes, and decreased milk production, or it can be asymptomatic. In Ecuador, vaccination against bB with S19 and/or RB51 is not mandatory and is the responsibility of the farmer.

The study of pathogenic viruses has always posed significant biosafety challenges. In particular, the study of highly pathogenic viruses requires methods with low biological risk but relatively high sensitivity and convenience in detection. In recent years, pseudoviruses, which consist of a backbone of one virus and envelope proteins of another virus, have become one of the most widely used tools for exploring the mechanisms of viruses binding to cells, membrane fusion and viral entry, as well as for screening the libraries of antiviral substances, evaluating the potential of neutralizing monoclonal antibodies, developing neutralization tests, and therapeutic platforms.
