Unveiling of Hydrogen Spillover Mechanisms on Tungsten Oxide Surfaces.

J Am Chem Soc

January 2025

Chemical Sciences Division, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Berkeley, California 94720, United States.

Hydrogen spillover is an important process in catalytic hydrogenation reactions, facilitating H activation and modulating surface chemistry of reducible oxide catalysts. This study focuses on the unveiling of platinum-induced hydrogen spillover on monoclinic tungsten trioxide (γ-WO), employing ambient pressure X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, density functional theory calculations and microkinetic modeling to investigate the dynamic evolution of surface states at varied temperatures. At room temperature, hydrogen spillover results in the formation of W and hydrogen intermediates (hydroxyl species and adsorbed water), facilitated by Pt metal clusters.

Spermidine antagonizes the anti-cancer effect of cold atmospheric plasma and induces transit G/G cell cycle arrest of triple negative breast cancers.

Free Radic Biol Med

January 2025

National Local Joint Engineering Research Center for Precision Surgery & Regenerative Medicine, Shaanxi Provincial Center for Regenerative Medicine and Surgical Engineering, First Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University, Xi'an 710061, P.R. China. Electronic address:

Cancer remains as a global health threat, with the incidence of breast cancers keep increasing. Dis-regulated redox homeostasis has been considered with essential roles for tumor initiation and progression. Using triple negative breast cancers, the most malignant subtype of breast cancers, as the tumor model, we explored the roles of the anti-oxidant spermidine, the pro-oxidative tool cold atmospheric plasma (CAP), and their combined use in cancer growth, anti-oxidative ability and cell cycle.

Role of riverbed sand mining on planform and cross-sectional morphology of Mayurakshi River, India.

Sci Total Environ

January 2025

Laboratorio de Geografía Física, Escuela de Geografía, Universidad de Costa Rica, Costa Rica.

Human interventions in the form of riverbed sand mining are escalating worldwide, especially in the humid tropics with excess population pressure exerting an elevated demand for sand as construction materials. Naturally, channel morphological alterations are observed for the tropical fluvial systems to a large extent. The present work examines the riverbed sand mining of the Mayurakshi River (India) during the last fifty years (1970-2020) using topographical maps, satellite images and field-based cross-sectional measurements.

The activation mechanism of Li-rich cathode has been discussed for many years, yet there is still debate on different theories. Potassium doping can assist the investigation on activation mechanism through its unique function in terms of blocking TM migration during activation.   K-doping works by occupying Li sites even after Li has been extracted, increasing stability by blocking transition metals from migrating into these sites, which can help us distinguish the pathway of activation.

Low-Impedance Hybrid Carbon Structures on SiO: A Sequential Gas-Phase Coating Approach.

Small Methods

January 2025

BCMaterials, Basque Centre for Materials, Applications and Nanostructures; UPV/EHU Science Park, Leioa, 48940, Spain.

Carbon coating on SiO surface is crucial for enhancing initial Coulombic efficiency (ICE) and cycling performance in batteries, while also buffering volume expansion. Despite its market prevalence, the effects of the carbon layer's quality and structure on the electrochemical properties of SiO remain underexplored. This study compares carbon layers produced via gas-phase and solid-phase coating methods, introducing an innovative technique that sequentially uses two gases to develop a low-impedance hybrid carbon structure.
