Haploinsufficiency for is associated with congenital heart disease (CHD) with variable comorbidity of pancreatic or diaphragm defects, although the etiology of disease is not well understood. Here, we used cardiac directed differentiation from human embryonic stem cells (hESCs) as a platform to study GATA6 function during early cardiogenesis. GATA6 loss-of-function hESCs had a profound impairment in cardiac progenitor cell (CPC) specification and cardiomyocyte (CM) generation due to early defects during the mesendoderm and lateral mesoderm patterning stages.

While remote functionalization has emerged as a powerful strategy for modifying unactivated sites that are traditionally challenging to functionalize, there has been no remote hydrogermylation known to date. This work reports the first remote hydrogermylation of alkenes, achieved through a rare base-catalyzed approach - completely free of added transition metal catalysts. The methodology is operationally simple, versatile, and capable of achieving up to 8-carbon chain walks, overcoming the previous two-carbon limit of base-mediated processes.

Nature constructs ubiquitin tags with high spatiotemporal precision to execute defined functions which critically rely on the exact molecular composition of the ubiquitin chain. Deciphering the complex ubiquitin code is of paramount interest in biology and requires flexible access to homogeneous ubiquitin tags. As enzymatic approaches suffer from inherent drawbacks such as hardly controllable chain length or connectivity and substrate-specificity, we apply a combination of expression and chemical tools to assemble ubiquitin chains.

In this work, we employ a simple mechanical mixing strategy to directly incorporate VCT MXene with metallic Na as an anode for Na metal batteries, which enables highly reversible and dendrite-free properties during the Na plating/stripping processes. Our findings reveal that the VCT host in the Na metal anode promotes uniform Na deposition, attributed to its abundant -O and -F surface functional groups, and we believe that this work provides a feasible approach to improve the electrochemical performance of sodium metal anodes.

Highlights: Pre- and post-tests, administered to 2,141 emergency first responder participants, showed an average improvement in test scores from 67% to 75%, highlighting the efficacy of the training. Interviews conducted within 3 years post-training revealed high participant satisfaction, with over 25% reporting adoption of key strategies discussed in the training by their fire/rescue service. Areas of concern were identified, including the lack of understanding related to certain hazards, such as free-flowing grain, which may put first responders at risk of secondary victimization.
