To adapt to low-iron environments, many bacteria produce siderophores, low molecular weight iron chelators that are secreted into the environment where they bind ferric iron. The production of siderophore uptake systems then allows retrieval of the iron-complexed siderophore into the cell, where the metal ion can be used for structural and catalytic roles in many proteins. While many siderophores are produced by the activity of a family of large modular nonribosomal peptide synthetase (NRPS) enzymes, a second class of siderophores are produced by an alternate pathway.

Study Design: Retrospective analysis of data collected across multiple centers.
Objective: To develop machine learning models for predicting neurological outcomes one month postoperatively in patients with metastatic spinal tumors undergoing surgery, and to identify key factors influencing neurological recovery.
Summary Of Background Data: The increasing prevalence of spinal metastases has led to a growing need for surgical intervention to address mechanical instability and neurological deficits.

Developing solvents with balanced physicochemical properties for high-voltage cathodes and lithium metal anodes is crucial for a sustainable and intelligent future. Herein, we report fully methylated tetramethyl-1,3-dimethoxydisiloxane (TMMS) as a single solvent for lithium metal batteries. We demonstrate that the fully methylated structure and Si-O bonds within TMMS can effectively elevate the dehydrogenation energy barrier, migrating the oxidation decomposition of the electrolyte.

Photoelectrochemical (PEC) seawater splitting offers a sustainable pathway for hydrogen production, yet its practical application is hindered by sluggish reaction kinetics and severe photocorrosion in chloride-rich environments. This study presents a dual-strategy modification of BiVO photoanodes through tungsten (W) doping and cobalt oxyhydroxide (CoOOH) nanolayer deposition to synergistically enhance the PEC performance and stability in natural seawater. W doping optimizes the electronic structure of BiVO by reducing the bandgap from 2.
