Introduction: The present study aims to investigate the relationship between social-media pressure, the tendency to internalize standards of beauty and attractiveness associated with thin bodies, which subsequently leads to distortion of body shape perceptions, and restrictive and emotional eating behavior disorders.

Methods: A survey-based research design was employed, utilizing an online questionnaire to collect data. The study sample consisted of 614 students, selected from the most prestigious universities in Bucharest.

Body positivity refers to a movement, popularized on social media, that encourages the normalization and acceptance of bodies diverging from sociocultural ideals, specifically within marginalized communities. Previous studies suggest that briefly viewing body positive social media content may lead to increased body satisfaction and positive affect in young women relative to thin-ideal and appearance-neutral content. Diminished body functionality and appearance change due to chronic illness poses a unique challenge to positive body image in young adults living with chronic illness.

Silver is the metal of choice for the fabrication of highly transparent grid electrodes for photovoltaics because it has the highest electrical conductivity among metals together with high stability toward oxidation in air. Conventional methods for fabricating silver grid electrodes involve printing the metal grid from costly colloidal solutions of nanoparticles, selective removal of metal by etching using harmful chemicals, or electrochemical deposition of the silver, an inherently chemical intensive and slow process. This Spotlight highlights an emerging approach to the fabrication of transparent and patterned silver electrodes that can be applied to glass and flexible plastic substrates or directly on top of a device, based on spatial modulation of silver vapor condensation.

Geometry-induced friction at a soft interface.

Proc Natl Acad Sci U S A

July 2024

Department of Physics, Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, Hauz Khas, New Delhi 110016, India.

Soft and biological matter come in a variety of shapes and geometries. When soft surfaces that do not fit into each other due to a mismatch in Gaussian curvatures form an interface, beautiful geometry-induced patterns are known to emerge. In this paper, we study the effect of geometry on the dynamical response of soft surfaces moving relative to each other.
