Purpose: Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) is one of the bariatric surgeries most frequently performed worldwide. Since this operation may predispose to the formation of peptic ulcer of the gastrojejunal anastomosis, the use of proton pump inhibitors (PPI) is recommended during the first postoperative year. However, so far, there is no detailed knowledge about the absorption of this medication during the immediate postoperative period and consequently about its effectiveness in blocking acid secretion.

Background: Gastric neuroendocrine neoplasms of type 1 and type 3 are different entities and as such require different therapeutical strategies. The aim of this study was to define and distinguish these two tumour subtypes with clearly different biological properties and patient survival. As shown, serum gastrin is an important diagnostic tool for differentiating the less malignant type 1 "hypergastrinemia non-related" tumor from malignant type 3, along with other parameters of malignant potential such as proliferation index and depth of invasion.

We describe the case of an apparently healthy newborn infant who in 7th day of life showed an episode of haematemesis and in 13th day of life presented an episode of apparent life threatening event (ALTE). A fibroscopy of the upper digestive tract showed a great ulcer of the gastric antrum and esophagitis limited to the mucosa. Gastrinemia in the blood showed high values (121 pg/ml).
